Well, I actually said that theists are transcendentalists, not the other way round, but I did use the wrong word. Brain-fart, sorry. I meant - idealists.

I wouldn't. As long as you and your beliefs stay out of my business - I don't care what you believe.
I like  to have a good conversation like this.  To me, the only way we can learn from each other is to have open conversations.  I can't stand it when people attack other people over something so trivial.  If we don't have a friendly conversation with each other we never learn. I came off too strong after I read that back to myself.  I am sorry for that. Oops.

It's a good point, most of us at least are not trying to stop you having whatever beliefs you want, if you're not hurting anyone.

We are just explaining why we aren't convinced that you hold them for rational reasons.

Could be a million reasons. Maybe he was going to do something horrible and changed his mind. Maybe he did something and you blotted it out of your mind. Thats just two off the top of my head. To think that god intervened makes me wondered why you think it didn't intervene in the millions of terrible crimes committed where there was no happy ending.

Quote:The person knew I could identify him.  Most people hurt their victims or make them scared to death. The most puzzling thing about it was he gave me a hug and told me to come back when I was ready to have sex (which I never did, I am not that stupid).  He went in and I walked away.  No one is that nice to their victims. If God doesn't exist, this can't possibly make sense logically.  Since it doesn't matter one way or the other, how would you explain what happened?

Worst attempt at seduction ever!

It seems this person was emotionally immature and probably mentally disabled in some way. Solved that for you. got anything else?

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

I have no idea what happened, I don't need to have an alternative explanation to point out that your version has no evidence. That is the argument from ignorance again, which I referenced from my website Smile

"I don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer. The need to fill gaps with made up stories is where religion flourishes.

You say this is out of ignorance.  Again my opinion.  As far as belief again either you believe and have faith or you don't.  If you don't then you are an atheist if you choose not to have the faith that it takes to believe. Even I have my beliefs or faith, religion or not also comes down to your personal opinions, beliefs, etc. No one can be convinced that He (Christian God) does exist no more than atheists can convince Christians that He doesn't exist.

I appreciate the conversation.  I do enjoy it.  We can't learn from each other unless we can talk to each other.  Thanks all for your opinions.  Smile

Had to be emotionally immature person to be in his 50's.  Yep sure is. Not mentally disabled, but I will go with mentally ill.  As far as changing his mind, what makes a person change his or her mind?

I say what out of ignorance? The heart pumps blood?

Beliefs are not a matter of choice, you believe or you don't. I can't choose to believe in God any more than I can choose to believe I can fly.

The need to fill gaps is where false religion comes into play such as Islam and Mormanism.  Mormanism are not Christians either.

Right. Your religion is special, the rest are fake.

They all say that. Why should I believe you and not them?

So only your religion is not false got it.
By the way how do we tell the difference because they all look identical to me? If you'd been born in Afghanistan, Palistine, Saudi Arabia etc you would be a Muslim so lucky you were born in a country that just happened to have the majority faith that happens to be correct[/sarcasm]

Remember, the argument is not “The Bible is the Word of God because it says it is.” Rather, the argument is “The Bible is the Word of God because it says it is and any alternative leads to absurdity.” It’s this last part of the argument that closes the loopholes and provides the proof that the Bible really is what it claims to be, whereas counterfeit religious books fall short.

The alternative that it's mostly fictional, loosely based on some historical events, presents no problems at all.

The mistake is assuming that one of those books must be true.
