I'm suspecting most here don't mind you because you're not rude or a troll.
Please answer one question for me.
What drives you here. To an atheist forum? What do you enjoy most about conversing with atheists?
You're always fighting an uphill battle, like other theists. But you persist against the odds.
I personally like the tenacity and the stubborn fight in you. And the fact that you are never outright rude.
I've always wondered why theists persist here.
Kingy and CL have stayed for the social aspects of it predominantly.
I want to know what drives you deep down?
Cheers.
Deep down. There is many factors.
I don't have too much of a social life. I go to gaming forums, religious forums, and here too.
But to be honest, going on forums has been a journey. I've learned so much and developed views that I feel more confident in having discussed arguments with other people and heard various sides of the issues.
So I like to learn and socialize from people of differing views.
That said, I really wanted to understand Atheists as well. I wanted to see if they reasoned properly with regards to this issue.
I also wanted to see the best Anti-God arguments out there. I came up with some of my own as a result as well.
That said, I feel warranted and justified in believing in God, and think that knowing God exists sometimes comes when sharing perception. It's like the more we think about we are seeing, the closer we get in that vision.
I always felt the hope that perhaps someone will come to realize the vision of God and think about what they are seeing.
As of now. It's to continue to reflect, bring different discussion, discourses, and see what the Atheist community can say with regards to these issues.
Now I have a motive aside from this due to Islam, to be a caller towards God and his way. I don't want to preach or anything, but I want to present the case for Islam that I reasoned myself to, to others.
If nothing more but to test the strength of my reasoning.
This is about evidence, and we expect evidence on any claim, not just issues of religion, and not just your religion. Telling you your logic is bad, and that book was not written with modern knowledge is not an attack on your human rights, it is simply the act of telling you you need to put a mirror to your own logic and question yourself.
Now as far as what drives us here? It is simply a place for atheists to hang out and for theists to make the attempt to present what they think is evidence.
There is no conspiracy here. You've been a member for years. You need to consider that maybe you keep coming here, not to convince us, but to convince yourself. Fishing for excuses to cling to old claims based on "faith" is not a real test of credibility of a claim. Claims that are verifiable can be tested independently of a holy book or a religion, not just yours.

Mystic, the problem is that all your arguments reduce to arguments from ignorance. "I don't know how X could be naturally, therefore it's magic." I have no problem talking about souls and self and identity and justice, but as rhythm pointed out, you have a terrible habit of accusing anyone who doesn't see things your way as being irrational. When you can't explain something in terms of material processes, you leap to the conclusion that it must be something magical. That's not an example of valid reasoning. And your posts in this thread make that clear. You complain that atheists don't provide substantive counter-arguments, therefore you are justified in concluding what you do. No, that's not a valid reason. I understand the nature of identity and the 'soul' -- that I've chosen not to explain them to you is not my problem.

MK, if you are gonna talk with someone and are honest about learning, stick with it till the end. I see you starting discussions, then moving to new threads without addressing the arguments in your previous thread.
Also
1) If you truly understand something, you should be able to convey it to others, or at least attempt to do so.
2) The whole concept of "deep truths" belongs in the realms of philosophy, don't confuse it with science
3) In your explanation for souls, you go on to suggest that one needs to acknowledge there is a soul to see/feel soul. That line of thinking is wrong, because if you accept something before examining it's validity, you've already reached and accepted your conclusion without any chance of validating it. If you think there is a soul, first start by defining a soul, and show how and where it is a necessary component in the equation of life.

Once you accept without question that your holy book is the manual for life, all reasoning and logic thereafter will be skewed in order for it to make sense.
Can a theist switch off for 5 minutes?
CL, you're a good sort. Play the atheist for a little while.
No poeing or trolling. Be genuine.
I just want to know if it's possible.
I think CL can do it, but I don't think MK can.

It's funny you say that, most of the years I've been on this forum, I've been a Deist or Theist without religion. And for about a week, I even was an agnostic Atheist.
Nice try to make it as if I haven't thought of different sides. I attempted in refuting why God would send Messengers, I made arguments specifically against Islam and why Quran is illogical. I made arguments against faith and if it can be praised.
I made arguments against God, one that even convinced me he didn't exist for a week. Please, I never seen any of you guys debate the other side. What makes you think it's possible there is a way to know God, his religion, his book, etc...You don't even probe into the possibility of it let alone investigate the truth of it in objective unbiased manner.
All you do is look to quickly refute an argument without even understanding it.

Hey genius, a lot of people who are atheists, where at one point believers. We don't need to argue the other side, a lot of us lived it, we didn't pretend to try it out for a week.

Yeah you guys give the most incomplete reasons for leaving faith in God, are satisfied with it, and don't need to argue the other side because you were once believers. Noted.
That's how you are going to come to the truth of the issue. Never re investigate the issue from the other side, don't you best to argue on the other side, just always look for a quick refutation and take your denial or doubt as proof for the rest of your lives that there is no way to know.

Could have fooled me I thought all you were doing was bad trolling and being unintelligible

You can't just re-investigate the issue from the other side, you can't just turn belief on and off like a light switch. You are claiming there is a god, convince me or go away. What your saying is become religious in order to investigate god, that is putting the cart before the horse don't ya think?
