That will work if the other person is reasonable, willing to discuss with you respectfully, and you live in a free society and you have rights protecting you. But you've missed the point, what if not - what if the other person is NOT reasonable, what if the other person got to change the laws of the land making you a criminal and now you are facing punishment?

If my society judges me fit for punishment for something I am assuredly guilty of doing, I have no choice but to accept their condemnation. Would you rebel against the laws of the land?

Yes I would if the laws were implemented by people who believe in a crackpot theory and used that to legislate those laws.
