A study using census data from nine countries shows that religion there is set for extinction, say researchers.
The signs are there that Christianity in particular, is headed for extinction. It may take a long time, but the writing is on the wall.
How Christianity continues to pull the wool over people's eyes is beyond my comprehension.! As more people become better educated then they will see through religion for what it really is.
Churches are closing their doors everywhere. It's getting harder and harder to get backsides on seats in churches and even harder to get priests, vicars, etc. for those that continue to operate.
Atheists or agnostics, or non-practising believers are growing in huge numbers, even in staunch RC countries. The true figures are probably impossible to estimate because of the social stigma in many places of admitting that you are an atheist or agnostic or a non-believer.
There are many intelligent Christians, no doubt, but an "intellectual Christian", is surely an oxymoron.

I have a feeling that religion, especially Christianity, will act like a scared wild animal backed into a corner. It will attack viciously when its existence is threatened. Since the rise of science and reason, religion has had some declining numbers but the amout of people that take it to an extreme level has risen. Also, there are too many people that abuse the power of religion and use it as a control method that it will be here for a very long time. It is a very useful tool to get what you want. As long as people fear the unknown elements of life, such as death, religion will be here to stay.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Christianity is just going to be replaced by Islam in Europe.
