Alcohol is strange

Unless you've been drinking your not drunk now.
If you ever wana do a whisky tasting with me I'd be happy to do so. We can do all the regulars + whatever you'd like to try and think about. But after 30mins it won't matter.

I miss drunkenness. I loved being inhibited. I was full of laughter, flirty, and cussed a lot. Plus, I just wouldn't shut up.
Now? I get my hangover before I even get a buzz. Nausea after two Buds. Luckily, I love alcohol for the taste, because heck if I'm ever getting drunk again.

I wouldn't be able to type if I was drunk. But I haven't gotten drunk in years. Like puke drunk. I don't like the way it makes me feel and I hate the hangover and the headache that I get hours later.

I'm not a fan of whiskey. I can't stand beer. Vodka, by itself tastes gross.
Captain Morgan Rum or Captain Morgan Black Rum is really what I like - in various mixed drinks. Can't do anything with coconuts, tree nuts or peanuts in it as I'm deathly allergic to those things. I stick with my Angry Orchard Ale. Two or three bottles on Friday nights when I shoot pool. I leave the bar as sober as I got there and I get to watch all the other people get progressively drunk and stupid. The owner of the bar had to call a cab for this one guy who got so damn drunk they cut him off. He was a mess. I feel sorry for his liver. we can do a mixed tasting, I don't turn my nose up to cocktails. It's a bit of an art afterall.

I'm like Archer with drinks, minus the deadliness.

To answer your question, Evie, alcohol is a depressant in that it inhibits some brain activity, in this cases forebrain operation. The first thing to go is judgment, especially of one's own thoughts or actions. This makes you feel happier and more convivial in the sense that you don't question your own activities, but go with the flow ... and we feel more "natural" for it.
I enjoy that part of drinking very much ... too much. Keep on drinking, and you'll find that it depresses other functions -- pulse rate slows, metabolism slows, if you've drunk enough lethargy sets in. Keep drinking past that point, or drink so quickly that you don't realize you've passed it, and alcohol will depress the autonomic nervous system -- your brain forgets to trigger a heartbeat or breath. I always enjoyed the first stage, depressing judgment and inhibitions. Too much for my own good. I would get to that level buzz and nurse it, but then days I wasn't like that, I felt flat, unalive. Bad sign. When you want that shimmer on the day, you may just jump down the rabbit-hole, where no day is complete without it. I did. If it was a good day, I'd "celebrate" with some good beer. If it was a shitty day, I'd tell myself to go home and unwind with a couple or six. Not saying anything about you, just relaying my own experiences. Be careful -- the hook is very fine, but it bites deep. What about the counter lethargy effect of high calories? I often feel like I have energy after getting past the "casual" stage (6 to 8 drinks). More often then not the calories from drinking stick with me in the morning, I don't have an appetite after a night of drinking the following morning and often postpone lunch because I'm not hungry.
