You should work to make yourself happy, first. Always. This is not in a selfish way.
If you are not happy with yourself, you will NEVER be happy with your partner, child, parent, or any other relationship.

Also, if either you or your spouse thinks they can only be happy if they have wealth and more stuff, then neither of you will EVER be actually happy.

I realize this is a bit off the topic of men vs women, but I have long since learned that my husband is not responsible for my happiness. Nor is my child, nor my parents. That's on me, and although having enough money to be comfortable is helpful, having more than that won't make me happier.

Choose happiness first, and the rest will come naturally.  It took half my life to learn this lesson, but it is the simplest, most elegant truth I've ever stumbled across.

If I told my partner I could make her happy by having her relax for the rest of her life and not have to work at all, that would piss her off big time. And she's not even a dominant assertive type. She loves being with me because I'm her best friend and, apparently, I listen (her words, not mine), not because I make a good sugar daddy and make it all about how great I am as "her man".

I know  that you're now spinning your previous comments on this and other threads in regards to your positions that...Gender stereotypes should NOT be challenged, women are out of place when they pursue goals outside the role of caregiver that 'evolution' and nature has assigned them with, women are essentially incompetent in the workplace, and that women should work very hard to please you.
