I was thinking this as well. It's like the people who look at passages from the Bible or Koran and say "See?! They were explicitly talking about the Big Bang/expansion of the universe/vacuum of space/etc in this passage!" because they found a handful of vague terms that can be interpreted with modern knowledge to mean what we want them to mean.

It's just something we do. I'm sure that someone will be along shortly to tell us that buddhism isn't anything like those other icky religions, and that buddhists aren't doing precisely that.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. It may be described in Buddhism but it's not actually a supernatural aspect of it.
Can't disagree with you here.
There's various takes on Buddhism.

Muslim scientists invented algebra, does that make algebra Islamic? Nope, once something actually makes sense religions have to disown it.

The two aren't mutually exclusive. (The desire to segregate them notwithstanding.)

Religion can have some scientific stuff in it, sure. Those of us of who follow the scientific method dispense with the rest of it. It doesn't matter where the ideas came from first, it doesn't make them "Buddhist" or "Islamic" or whatever.

Excellent, then we can test buddhism. Perhaps you'd like to offer up those truths you referred to, and the method proposed to free oneself of whatever it is were meant to escape?
(it's rare we get someone who believes in something they don;t immediately claim is beyond the purview of science, that doesn't demand exclusion)

Is algebra key to the Islamic religion? This sounds more like scientific posturing.
