I remember when I was a kid whenever I heard sounds of planes I'd dash out my house and wave at the pilots in the plane. I figured they'll see me one day and land near my house so that we could go for a ride.

My earliest recollection career-wise is of wanting to be a jellyfish. It just seemed like the coolest existence possible - float about, sting people who fuck with you, etc.

It still hurts when I think about all the life choices I've made that curtailed the jellyfish option. *sigh*

That actually sounds pretty fun.

I wanted to be an astronaut, I remember telling people I didn't care if I died on the mission.
I loved animals so I wanted to be a farmer until I discovered the farmer doesn't just have lots and lots of pet cows and chickens and he actually has to have them sent away to be killed. After that I wanted to work in a zoo which I still do.

When I was little, I didn't give it any thought. I just wanted to run away a lot.

Now that I'll be 45 in less than two weeks, looking back at my life choices as an adult, I'm glad I became a mom. I'm not proud of some of the other decisions I made, but I'm still here. I'm in school now and that's all that matters, even if it's 24 years late in the making.

So, what do I wanna be when I grow up? A wiser adult than I've been. A better mother. A more loving wife and a person who still tries to see that there's good in people even when those people have wronged me.

I regularly catch myself saying "when I grow up, ..." when I detail some more far-fetched plans. I will probably still say that at 80, if I live that long.

The one thing I always knew I didn't want to be was a farmer. Helping your father restore a cow's prolapsed uterus on your 6th birthday will do that to you.

When I was younger, in my first phase of atheism, I often said I would have been a nun if I had been religious. I'm the contemplative type.

Out of curiosity, have nuns ever left the faith to become normal people? Or even atheists?
