Again - that's not any larger of a presence than would be expected. They're the strongest military force and feel that they are keeping the peace in the region (just like the USA like to claim they're the strongest nation and are keeping the peace), but unlike the USA it's actually more truthful because PRC are strongly opposed to instigating war.

You will notice that China's claims stretch well over 1,000 km from their own shores, in clear violation of international law. The tensions in the area, whether or not they result in war (and I don't think they will) are the direct result of China's illegal claim to the waters which by settled law belong to other nations.

Firstly, international law is not enforceable over local laws. If it was it would be a complete affront to democracy. And if it was then Bush, Cheney, Obama, and half the CIA would be locked up for breaching the UN Convention against torture. And secondly - there are much more important international laws ignored by the USA.

But let me point this out to you - the USA currently supports Israel which is illegally occupying and persecuting the rightful owners of the land - the Palestinians.
