Besides, unless the rules state otherwise the side that gets 50% + 1 is the winner.  So if the pool of available voters is 50 million and only 50 bother to vote the side that gets 26 or more is the winner.

The weather was particularly poor across the UK, meaning a lot of people couldn't get out to vote. There are many reasons why people do not, or cannot vote.
If the big wigs wanted people to vote they would make it happen.  Once the typical person gets into power he does everything possible to screw over the herd.

A lot of people simply don't give a damn about political issues of any kind.  They simply don't care.

If you held a referendum to end taxes, how many idiots do you think would vote yes?

Well I live in Washington State, where we have almost yearly referendums to end various taxes and they almost always fail. People are always mad at the process used when it doesn't get the results they like.

I have a suspicion that if the turnout was 100% the result would have been a win for remain.

People that don't vote don't give a damn about the results and they don't matter.

That's cute...but it's not how things work.
Counting votes is an error prone task. As such, the result is accompanied by an error bar (something like one mistake every 10,000 votes, or near that). If the error bar overlaps the 50% mark, then the voting result is unknown, no matter how many recounts one gets.
In such cases, either it gets interpreted as too close to call, and/or the election/referendum needs to be repeated.

Good job, old chaps.

I'm certainly not a financial magician or economics guru, but told you so doesn't even come close. Bit of chest pounding, since everyone with at least some basic shreds of economical understanding could have predicted that kind of outcome.

National pride always comes with a pricetag. I'm an American ... ask me how I know. Smile

Whoops.  This is what we Yanks call "collateral damage."

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-eu-r...m-36626201

Quote:EU referendum: Moody's cut UK's credit outlook to 'negative'

Quote:"In Moody's view, the negative effect from lower economic growth will outweigh the fiscal savings from the UK no longer having to contribute to the EU budget."
It also said the UK had one of the largest budget deficits among advanced economies.
The financial assessment came after the UK voted to leave the EU, and a defeated Mr Cameron said he would step down as leader by autumn.

Oh well.  What's that compared to tossing out muslims, anyway?

The most accurate and succinct summation I've read thus far.

If you told me that it was because you hate immigrants or because you love vaping then I would think your reason is really stupid. Tongue

Honestly Losty this is the most massive misconception I've seen from Americans having their say here. Not just on this forum, but on reddit, facebook, all manner of social media.

They think this was about us wanting to boot out all the filthy immigrants and that the leave people are uneducated numpties who want to give the finger to the establishment.

I have no doubts in some cases this is true, but I have had a lot of conversations with real people who voted in this. I've discussed and debated with people voting to remain. What strikes me (and yes, this is just my personal experience) is that actually, the most informed, the people who actually seem to have looked into it, are the people who voted leave.

There's immense stupidity on both sides. But I find it really insulting that people seem to think that the remain option was the one backed by 'intellectuals'. Actually I think the reason more young well educated people voted for remain is less to do with intellect and more to do with your class. (ie working class, upper class).

One reason I've read much about this issue but refrained from posting is because the rhetoric our media here reports is largely the racist xenophobic stuff, and knowing what I know about American media and its love of sensationalism, I don't trust my own grasp of the facts, and I sure as hell don't trust American media.

Normally that would be my reaction, but abaris really isn't worth getting angry over.

He's a smart sonofabitch, and I say that as someone who has sometimes disagreed with him.

So fucking what if I can't think of an example off the top of my head? It's still true, there are fucking tons of people I've met who are examples of it. Do they somehow magically not exist because I can't name them?

Sounds a bit biblical to me.

Thump's Corollary.

So I was right then, you're being fallacious but rather than admitting it you decided to be disingenuous to continue to make this "point" that I had already pointed out was, indeed, fucking fallacious and pointless as fuck.

In case you didn't notice I think you're the biggest twat on this forum and every post I make to you is to bait you into being the butthurt little bitch you are.

See, this really hurts. At one time, I was sure that you thought I was the biggest twat on this forum. But it seems now that you've changed your feelings on this matter, and I have perhaps lost a place in your constellation of twattery.

Anyone know how to tie a noose?
