I have intentionally opted not to make such blanket statements. I have seen the data parsed many different ways and perceptions may or may not reflect reality. Plus not all disparate effects can be attributed to racism. Correlation is not causation. Professional hockey players are disproportionately white. Basketball players are disproportionately black. Jews are over represented among doctors and lawyers. Lots more Poles are masons and carpenters. Mexicans make up most dry-wallers and tapers. It seems like gays are over-represented in design fields like architecture (but that's just personal experience).

Not in a legal sense. Some people seem to think that there is still a legal advantage to being white, which is stupid. But in a societal sense, I think that white privileged is definitely real.

There are tons of things that are easier being white that people don't even think about. Here is an example that probably nobody thinks about. Back when I was a serious hippy, I used to hitchhike all over the place. I used to think very frequently how those trips would be many many times harder and possibly more dangerous if I were black or really any other race. People off all races view white people as safer people. People would say 'oh this is just some happy hippy out on an adventure while he's young." I doubt that I would get the same reaction if I were black or Hispanic even from other blacks and hispanics. In fact hitching through American Indian reservations in the US, more middle class American Indians themselves would straight up tell me that they only would pick up a white hitchhiker, and not Native ones. I think it was Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson who said that even they felt some relief when they heard footsteps behind them and looked back and saw it was a white person.

While that is the experience that I'm more familiar with, I'm sure that it applies to other areas of people's lives.

Again I am not saying their retaliation is right nor how it should be. A bigger person wouldn't retaliate but you can't expect everyone to be the bigger person when so insulted. I can't blame them in -some- instances. Our white privilege makes a lot of white people think that their side of it is okay and then get offended when their targets target them back. No one is right when being racist I'm just very opinionated when it comes to white people trying to justify why they are racist (not saying anyone on here is doing that it is just a sore subject for me) because I know what it is like to be racist simply because someone you look up to and has raised you tells you it is right and funny and you see nothing at all wrong with it. I got away from my step dad and saw what a horrible person he was but a lot of people can't get away from those that program them in a negative way. It is just like religion, it is stupid and doesn't make sense but when you are raised in it things are viewed differently. I know now that whites are more to blame than anyone else and I will try to talk to anyone that will listen so that people aren't just ignorant to the fact and try to justify their actions of hate.

I'm not saying you said the retaliation was right, you said he wasn't being hypocritical which I'm saying he was.

I'm saying you ignored him, he found out it's because you're racist so he reacted with racist slurs and abuse.

You can't scientifically measure racism but I'd say he was being as racist as you aswell as being a hypocrite.

Assuming that he said in the first place that he's against racism in some way, if not then maybe he's not a hypocrite and he's just being racist.

I'm saying I deserved every bit of it and I had no right to throw the hissy fit that I did over it. In all honesty (which I would have NEVER admitted back then) I thought he was cute and while we were just joking and talking in class I thought he was pretty cool. I was afraid of what people would say if I admitted that I might like him because he was black. My step dad is actually the one that got the guy, Mario, to know that I was racist. He heard that I was talking to him from other kids that went to the alternative school he worked at and let it slip that I wouldn't date Mario because I didn't like black guys. Those kids told Mario and the whole thing blew up. My reaction, which made me feel justified in being racist, was not okay. He got mad and said those things then I had the audacity to go see this is why I don't like black people. Makes me cringe to even think about how I could ever be like that.

It exists, all of it (white, black, man, woman, adult, child, rich, poor, addict, clean, ...............). Victim, perpetrator and neutral. Which do you choose to be?

I choose to be a rich, tall muscular black man. It's just not working out for me.
