How do they explain away the Mountain Meadows Massacre?

Does the church claim to have the plates and stones? Can they be seen?

No one talks about touchy subjects like that and poor explanations are always given when asked. There are apologist and church articles trying to explain it but really...it strays from the common theistic question "if this is God's church why didn't God tell them not to?" But instead it just plays on the tools of conjecture. But that is my opinion. I try not to understand it anymore because I can't really understand anything regarding mormonism anymore.
