RE: Mother and son in New Mexico face jail time for incestuous relationship

This is stupid! It's their life and they can do whatever they want with it. I for one would have a relationship with my sister, if she ever asked me to. And it's not the court's or anyone else's business who we'll be sleeping with!

Sure it does. I have no desire to legally force anyone to live in a way that aligns with my personal morals. Laws should be their to protect people from harm. No killing, no stealing, no speeding, no raping. And to enforce responsibilities: pay your taxes, register your vehicle, provide for your children.
Yes, you do. You literally just demonstrated that fact by telling us what you think laws should be about.

No I don't. I don't find anything remotely immoral about not registering your vehicle, but I still think you should have to do it legally.

And why do you think you should have to do it?

It makes perfect sense. You have to obey the law if you don't want to get into trouble. You don't have to agree with the law being moral to do so.
Exactly. If you did have to laws would never work on psychopaths. All psychopaths who avoid committing crimes only do so because they don't want to get in trouble. After all as many as 1% of the population are psychopaths. The law clearly does work on at least some psychopaths.

This may be off topic but fuck it: I think we have far too many purely semantic debates on AF.

Because in a society it's a responsibility that makes things run smoother for everyone. If you choose not to do it, that's not morally wrong. Nor would choosing not to live in a society at all be morally wrong.

Because in a society it's a responsibility that makes things run smoother for everyone. If you choose not to do it, that's not morally wrong. Nor would choosing not to live in a society at all be morally wrong. So, let me get this straight. You don't think it's wrong, yet you think it should be enforceable?
Why enforce it then, if you don't think it's wrong? Sounds to me like you'd want something to be a choice rather than a rule, if you don't think it's wrong.
But let's imagine no one registers their vehicles, because like you, they don't think it's wrong, and they get away with it. What happens then?
And let's imagine we allowed a certain territory on earth where no rules apply(so you have no society). What would then happen?

See I think you just have a broader definition of morality/ethics than Losty does. Like for you even if something is wrong simply in the sense that it's bad for society you consider that an ethical matter.

Correct

Well then it sounds wrong to you because that's not how I feel at all. I don't think laws and morals should be connected and for the most part I think laws and morals are not connected.

Failing to see the point of this...
