Quote:As far as Augustus is concerned, maybe he took to heart and embodied Jesus's words, "Ye are gods."
That'd be a bit tricky, given their respective time lines.

Good for them, and you. The same can be said of Santa.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

I disagree - I haven't got the potential to conquer the Mediterranean world.
Call it 'tongue in check [sic]' all you like, but it comes off as ignorance.

So the Babylonians, Hindus and Egyptians all had a version of Santa Claus? Surely you can support that with excerpts from their writings?
Santa need be tracked no further than the Amanita Muscaria mushroom in Siberia. If you don't know the amanita, you don't know Santa or Christmas....and you'll certainly never understand the flying reindeer.

Boru You did back then, if you were born to the right family. But more to the point, Jesus was basically saying "you have the same potential I do" in response to being accused of blasphemy in claiming to be a God.

Yes, I know what you were getting at, but - even more to the point - Augustus died in 14 CE, long before the Jesus myth was established. In other words, Augustus wouldn't have known anything about Jesus at all.

Now who's relying on a strawman, you condescending troll?

Boru So only when Jesus asserted it, it became true? What about the quote he was referring to in Psalms 82:6, written around 897 BC?

Perhaps you're taking all this a little too seriously...

. . . ah yes, the shear[sic] thrill of making shit up and convincing yourself that you have learned something. . . and calling it "God." So...you want God, but not all of God, just enough to walk around with and talk too? Seems reasonable, how long have you sat still for?
I have wrestled with God on my own, and worked out my salvation with fear(awe) and respect. I rely on no one else, no appeal to consensus, nor to scriptural authority, nor any individual cultural mythos. I can stand on the waters I have collected, clarified, and then dug for on my own, finding my own well spring inside me. And I can turn those water's into the wine of joy.
I prefer the way I do, to the way you do not. That is all.
