OMG, I'm not sure which gear I was in, but it's the one where you pedal furiously and move uphill at a snails pace.

I'm not giving up though.  I just need to work up to it, and probably get a lot better about gear selection and such.  My bike is a 21 speed like practically every bike made today but so far I keep the front sprocket on the middle gear, so it's effectively only seven the way I'm riding.

I used to always ride on maximum speed, no matter what it was, uphill or downhill. Now, I can't do that without exerting myself way too fast. So I rode the same way as you did in that situation. I'll wait for the smoking addiction to fade some more into the background before I try anything crazy like that.
