That is so fucking stupid.

I remember long ago a Dallas Miami clip where the guy held the ball backwards while running to the endzone and a Miami player kocked the ball out of his hands.

JUST GET IN THE ENDZONE first.

In college football isn't celebrating before you reach the endzone a penalty? I remember watching a clip of an Australian punter in an American college who did a fake punt and ran for a touchdown, but he put his arms out to the side before he reached the endzone so they called it back. If I recall it's not a rule in Australia so he wasn't aware.

Here's the clip:

They changed that rule after one year. It's still a penalty, but not a spot foul. Les Miles pitched a hissy over that one. Rightly so, that was weak for taunting.

They need to do the same with the targeting ejections. I saw two BYU players get ejected tonight because the receiver ducked into a helmet to helmet hit. One was a crackback and they tossed a kid for almost no contact but because his shoulderpad grazed a facemask.

I understand that everyone has different tastes in the form of entertainment.
Maybe I can glimpse the excitement of competing against other people, being fit and the glory of winning against other opponents.
But what is in it for the crowd in the stadium or the people watching from home?
Is it how well you know the rules, players and speculation of who will win?
How do you pick which side you're cheering for?
What does that side have to do with you?
I'm not judging, by the way.
I wish I liked sport if nothing but for the inclusion.
I just can't get the point.

I'm with you.
I tried to get into football (and by that I mean proper football not the travesty our colonials play) but found the task beyond me. Its obviously a failing with me as these people seem to get a lot of entertainment value from it,

but for the life of me I don't understand what.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

Personally, I think that when one makes it into the end zone, one ought to act like one has been there before.

I used to not get that either, until I started watching esports of the game I used to play a lot.

I can tell you what it's about. You do something yourself and there are people who do it far better than you and are payed to do it. They also compete against other such people/whole teams. You don't generally choose your preference, it's either something you inherit from friends or family or you just like one team's style of playing the best. And then when they play and they win you get this rush. It's like they're winning for you. I actually read a book where a study was mentioned. They checked how people talk about their favorite teams when they lost or won. When they lost, they referred to them as distantly as possible, not wanting to have to do anything with them. When they won, they talked about them with the pronoun "we". "We won that game."

Haven't seen the clip yet, but if my thoughts are correct the Aussie was probably aeroplaning once he was clear. You can see that quite often in rugby, just as the player is getting ready to ground the ball. I wouldn't be all that surprised if it weren't intentional.

Doesn't matter, he got ahead of himself mentally. That says to me subconsciously he got over confident. That is simply a stupid mistake. Any coach worth their salt, and I am sure this coach did, had a talk with him on the sideline.

Having now watched the clip Tiberius posted I have to call giving a penalty ridiculous in that case. He stuck out his hands for a few miliseconds, he was so quick I didn't see it at normal speed, only during the slow mo.

@Brian, that wasn't the player getting ahead of himself. He had a good hold of the ball, you often see rugby players running at full tilt with the wall held away from the body, especially going into a tackle, either to ensure the tackler doesn't rip the ball, or to offload the ball before the tackle is completed and a ruck is formed.
