Sad. I just learnt that my mom's groundskeeper/maintenance man, a friend and old neighbor of mine named Chris, has cancer. Squamous-cell, fast-growing, and while they are pretty sure he has two tumors, they have only located one.

Thankfully, he's at a good teaching hospital in Austin, meaning he'll not only get good care, but won't have to sweat the money.

Crossing my fingers for you, bud. Keep swingin'.

Feeling extremely apprehensive about this hurricane. 

Guess I'd better start getting my shit together, because I absolutely won't be able to leave work for at least two to three days if that storm hits. The women with young children at home, and a lick of common sense, are going to call out sick that day. That'll be roughly half the staff as no-shows.

Pack a bag for work -- dry or canned food and snacks, plenty of water, a couple of changes of clothes, toiletries, don't skimp. You might be looking at some loooong shift-work and you can't count on the services there.
