Actually five minutes in a big yard a couple of times a week is about all the running most retired racers are interested in. They aren’t nearly as active nor do they require as much exercise as many expect. There are usually squirrels involved any time Pops wants to run these days. The problem is that just a few strides at speed or even a long period standing is enough to aggravate his bad leg. That wasn’t always the case though.

Cute ferrets, but I hear they smell like old people mixed with dog food.

Yea the left rear one is the one that’s giving him problems. When we adopted him in 04 he had plates and screws in both rear hocks. He started having problems with the left one a couple of years ago, and we had the hardware removed about 6 months later hoping that would help. It is still giving him a lot of problems though.

The source of the original problem are those big ole ham muscles. They can exert so much force it can snap a hock like a toothpick. It is unusual for the owner of a racer to spend the money to have something like a broken leg repaired. Pops was a money dog though so after the first break they fixed him up and raced him some more. The second break would have been the end of him for sure if he hadn’t already been requested by an adoption group with the resources to pay for something like that again. He is a very luck hound.

Not here.

They smell nice, like Pot Pouri and watermelon, and cucumber...depending on the individual Ferret. I have a control on their scent glands with special conditioners and body sprays. If You keep their cage and them clean properly then that smell never comes about

I thought so. Its not just muscle, but also scar material built up in his flanks.

Poor guy... to have such a swelled knot in his leg to deal with every time he takes a step...
