It happened again...

I just want to know how to deal with this better. I can't very well storm off everytime someone wants to pray on me. But I also can't very well standby quitely while I'm blithely insulted.

Could you not just say in a really preachy way (I'm thinking tv evangelist style) 'Why are you praying? This is the way God made me! Who are you to question the will of God?'

I hate that you had to put up with his self serving charade.

Yeah, or maybe ask the pastor who he thinks he is to question the way you were created.

But seriously your problem involves mixing with the religious in the place where they do their thing and expecting too much.  I went to church with my father exactly once as an adult while he was still alive.  I regretted it.

I'm sorry that happened, BQ. There's nothing more obnoxious than a Jesus freak putting on a show, and it's unconscionable that he would try to make you his prop.

On the bright side, at least he didn't go full Jesus and make mud with his spit and rub it onto your eyes.

ewwwwwwwwwwwwww
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I might have broke and hit him if that happened

And he would have richly deserved it.

Sorry, bet you get that all of the time, or at least more often than is ever comfortable.

I'd suggest that you have a conversation with the pastor, arranged to meet in a public place. From your past posts I think your Dad knows your feelings/position and, being a deacon, has not passed along your feelings to the pastor.

Let the pastor know that, no matter what your beliefs, he does not have your permission to use you to promote his beliefs. And that if he does you intend to publicly embarrass in front of the congregation.  I'll leave the action up to you. I'm sure I and others here could come up with some very colorful responses. I see that some already have.

Good luck. Don't punish Dad to much, he was only partly responsible.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

Sorry you had to go through this disgustingly patronizing bunch of crap, BQ.

I've never been religious or gone to church but I'm practically phobic of churches. I can go inside... but if I was asked to participate even for family I'd struggle to not cry at how incredibly cheesy, cringeworthy and indeed patronizing church is. The buildings can be very pretty but what religious crap people do in there is more fucking revolting to me than anything Vorlon would ever Google.

Sunday service is as revolting as William Lane Craig's stupid fucking fallacy-spouting face.

I'd simply not go to church any more. Ever.
