Another problem with the slavery argument is plenty of civilizations banned it only to then restate it so e have to take that into account but as I said the real credit goes to civilizations that didn't practice it in the first place

Bold mine. Sources please, it seems it never really happened. End of Portuguese slavery; I'm basing it off the Portuguese port of Zanzibar being the most notorious centre for the slave trade in the Indian Ocean until it's annexation by British forces in 1890 as part of the Minto Plan.
However on closer inspection it appears that the slave trade ended there in 1873, that may be because the European customers dried up around that time, though I think the Ottomans were still trading.
The Portuguese were signatories to the Brussels Conference Act 1890.

To say that a human process was used in determining what would be contained in the bible or what the dominant viewpoint would be is not showing that the result was not inspired by God. The fact that there was and is disagreement among christians does not show that the bible is not inspired. It just shows God brought about his plan through the workings of humanity.

How? It's a fair comparison.

Your feelings don't make belief in God any less silly.

Smart people who believed in a Guy in the Sky, A.K.A. an imaginary friend that's as silly as the tooth fairy.
No shame required. It's truthful and honest for me to say that yes belief in a supernatural creator is as silly as belief in the tooth fairy.
Quote:That list doesn’t even include theologians, like David Bentley Hart, or physicists, like, Francis Collins or Max Planck. All brilliant.
Irrelevant.
Quote:Maybe you don’t realize this but it is possible to be an atheist without acting like an infantile little snark.
And yet it's not infantile to compare a Guy in the Sky to a tooth fairy. It's infantile to believe in a Guy in the Sky.
Quote:It’s astonishing to me how such ass-wipes will disrespect the legacies of truly great men and women like Dr. King, Bonhoeffer, and Catherine Booth (founder of the Salvation Army) by pretending that their religious convictions did nothing to motivate and inspire them to change the world.
Funny how you talk of being infantile and a little snark when that is clearly you. Calling atheists ass wipes and infantile little snarks for making fair comparisons while you make a bunch of irrelevant name dropping.
It's no surprise you're a theist with the emotional irrelevancy you display here.
Quote:How can anyone seriously believe that the motivating force to build the very first hospitals is in any way comparable to believing in the tooth fairy or Santa Claus?
Oh great so along with making nothing but an irrelevant Argument From Authority you now have to sneak in an irrelevant Argument From Personal Incredulity. I don't give a flying fuck whether you wonder how anyone can personally compare something to the tooth fairy or Santa Claus. It just so happens that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence and God/A Guy In The Sky/ An Imaginary Firend/ Supernatural Creator Of the Universe Oh And By The Way Also Jesus and Resurrection and Miracles and Stuff ... all this crap is just as absurd as the tooth fairy and Santa Claus.
Quote:Here in Chicago we have Mount Siani, Rush Presbyterian, Illinois Masonic, Loyola, Mercy, Saints Mary and Elizabeth, Saint Anthony...that’s just a start. They came to be because of religious convictions for which you have no respect.
Fuck you you're clearly the one lacking respect here with your insults to atheists who call out your stupid beliefs for what they are, stupid. We shit on your beliefs and you shit on us because you can't tell the difference. Well go fuck yourself. You have neither shown nor earned respect.

Like someone once said--if you want your religious beliefs to be respected, get some respectable religious beliefs.
