But if you asked me if I found it insulting for you to equate the beliefs I hold, to those held by 4 year olds and adults that are legitimately nuts... then yeah, I'd tell you I do. Seems pretty logical that I would. If you want to continue to accuse me of being insecure for this reason despite me telling you otherwise, go ahead I guess. Seems to give ya'll some sense of superiority, so knock yourselves out.

Oh no, not superiority, just telling you and others that believe in gods, what I think of it. You take it offensive? That is too bad, but if the way I think makes you shake, then it is insecurity. I am going to tell you how I think, not sugar coat it, make it all polite and dandy. I respect that you are free to believe. You should try also to accept critique of your beliefs.

I am perfectly fine with critique of my beliefs. But as I have explained... there's a difference between critiquing a person's belief, and equating that person's belief to a belief that only children hold. When you say the beliefs I hold are equal to those help by children, you're essentially calling me childish/crazy/stupid. So yeah, that's insulting.

It's like one of your friends telling you you're a childish idiot and then asking if it insults you. You say "yes" and then they accuse you of being insecure.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

You can dish it out, but you can't take it. That's why you keep backing away into the insincere bullshit that you "can disrespect a belief without disrespecting the believer." That may be true in general, but not with respect to this issue.

P1: The tooth fairy exists.
P2: Truth exists.

In one trivial respect some smartasses could claim that neither of the proposition’s subject has sufficient empirical evidence to justify belief in it. I challenge these Champions of Reason to justify their self-conceit of being Truthseekers without tangible falsifiable evidence that Truth exists.
If there was a tooth fairy, someone could at least, in theory, set a pair of dentures on a mousetrap and catch one. Not so with truth. If truth exists then it isn’t just another thing in a universe full of things. Has anyone seen truth? Distilled it into a test-tube? It’s not even reasonable to suggest that belief in truth is justified only after a sample has been produced under controlled conditions. Truth cannot be isolated. Either it informs everything or it doesn’t. Any comparison between the existence of the tooth fairy and truth is a ludicrous and obvious category error. I question the intellectual integrity of those who deny it.

I take that back. I don’t question it. They dishonest. Why is it that skeptics compare the existence of God to fairies, unicorns, and other fantastic mythological beasts as opposed to the existence of things like truth or personal identity or Platonic Forms or moral principles? I will tell you why. Because their only intention is to make believers seem ridiculous. Douches.

So close, yet too far. You know this chad, you really have to believe in the tooth fairy, e.g. have faith. the tooth fairy will be obvious to all that already believe, setting all your premises true by default.

And you are the one being dishonest claiming absolute knowlege, yet, not evident to all humans. Go hide your ass in a monastery or something. mabe your god will come to you there.

Catholic_Lady is my favorite, even if she does think I'm a heathen.

Neo.... not so much
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.

It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.

Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll

I said 50,000 times that my comparison of your beliefs to the tooth fairy was not meant as an insult. You took it as an insult, but that's not my problem. If you want to throw a fit about it by tossing your personal offense at others, then I'm just going to shake my head at your butthurt and laugh. Fuck off.

It is perfectly your right to feel insulted. I tell the same thing to my mom and sisters. Good thing I am pro at Krav Maga Evasion. But that is just how it is. I find belief in any maistream religion infantile. Well, no one is perfect. You have good qualities too. A gentle caring personality and other stuff that Mr_CL can enumerate surely. I am sorry, but I won't be sorry for the way I think <---- See what I did there?

It doesn't matter what you intended. What matters it that is is an insult. Both CL and I have explained to you why it is insulting and yet you persist. It's like accidentally saying to an African-Amercian that you are surprised at how well-spoken they are, being informed that it is condescending, but then continuing to say it anyway...because you don't mean it that way. It is your problem.

RE: Tooth Fairy Bullshit
Honestly, I'm not even complaining. You guys can equate my belief to belief in tooth fairies all day long. I've seen tons of threads and posts about it. I don't try to stop you or silence you. In fact, I never say a word about it.

However, I figured for once I'd come in here and confirm that yes, I think someone equating the beliefs I hold to those held by children is insulting to my character, to my intelligence, to my maturity, and to my mental state. And I figured I'd explain *why* I find it insulting.

That's it. I'm not trying to stop anyone from continuing to say those things. Just explaining my views on it and how I feel about it. Now so long as everyone correctly understands what my views are, as I have tried to explain many times now on this thread, I don't have anything further to say, and nothing to complain about.

Oh, and calling me insecure was insulting as well, but what can you do.

Yeah, I'm not going to dance around your trigger warnings anymore. Have fun with your fit. I'm not going to let your issues bother me.
