Routine vaccination
- This HPV vaccine is recommended for girls and boys 11 or 12 years of age. It may be given starting at age 9.
Why is HPV vaccine recommended at 11 or 12 years of age?
HPV infection is easily acquired, even with only one sex partner. That is why it is important to get HPV vaccine before any sexual contact takes place. Also, response to the vaccine is better at this age than at older ages.
Catch-up vaccination
This vaccine is recommended for the following people who have not completed the 3-dose series:
- Females 13 through 26 years of age.
- Males 13 through 21 years of age.
This vaccine may be given to men 22 through 26 years of age who have not completed the 3-dose series.
It is recommended for men through age 26 who have sex with men or whose immune system is weakened because of HIV infection, other illness, or medications.

What I'm getting on about is that I don't buy that all the people within the guidelines who aren't compliant just never heard about it. A substantial number have likely heard about it but declined to get it. Call them anti-vaxxers lite or whatever you like, point is that they chose not to get a vaccine.

Have you got yours? Or are you being the hypocrite I believe you to be?
Not all HPV causes cancer.
From the CDC: "Most people with HPV never develop symptoms or health problems. Most HPV infections (9 out of 10) go away by themselves within two years. "

Edit: Did you notice that it's not a required vaccine, similar to the shingles vaccine?

And...? Like I said, I would prefer more people would get the vaccine to protect themselves (and others). What was the point of your comment? We already know that not everyone follows recommended guidelines for vaccines. We need more education about vaccines in general to get those numbers up.

Yes, I have. Other people have made threads againt anti-vaxxers before too. So your point is...?
Quote:Have you got yours?
No. I was beyond the recommended age when it came out, not that I would have gotten it anyway.
Quote:Or are you being the hypocrite I believe you to be?
Huh? Even if I were in the right group and chose not to get it, I wouldn't be a hypocrite, as I don't rail against anti-vaxxers. The hypocrites are those who bitch about anti-vaxxers, are in the recommended Gardasil age group (or were in it while it was available), yet didn't get it.

NSS, and Gardasil doesn't target those. There are 100+ kinds of HPV. Gardasil targets 4, which are the ones most likely to cause cancer.

Did you get the required vaccinations in your state? If not, why?

I'd have to check with my mom, but yes, I probably did.
We got all the recommended vaccinations for our daughters, with the exception of Gardasil.
Does that make me an anti-vaxxer? If not, why not?

I am from the UK where it is routinely given to girls aged 12 to 13. No one in my family has been offered it or has it been suggested that they have it.
All vaccinations that have been recommended for my family or myself have been taken.
If there was a time when that vaccination was recommended by our health service for me or my family we would take it. the same is true of any vaccine. They save the health service money by preventing future expense and should be encouraged.

What were your reasons for not getting the Gardasil vaccine?
We thought the risks outweighed the benefit.
