I have an alternate explaination - it's a terrible film that no one wants to see again.
The Yellowstone supervolcano is one of those things simply not worth worrying about. If and when it blows, there's nothing to be done, and it's going to be a massive global extinction level event. Frankly, I'm much more concerned about the volcano that's practically in my back yard that's already erupted in my lifetime, and that barely moves my give-a-shit meter.
That's not to say that the people the OP is referring to aren't kooks. They are.

Not likely to be an E.L.E., just a bad patch for a lot of the world.

That's the danger, at the bottom of it, in worrying about things like yellowstone..I think, Cyber. There's no shortage of shit to worry about thats nearer and dearer and even manageable or preventable. So many things that people don;t have any attention left for, after consuming massive doses of yellowstone.
We're running out of dirt, for example. Hard to fucking believe, isn't it? Terrible, since without soil we all die before any volcano goes boom. It might be a positively serene day on earth, the day the last human being dies due to soil depletion. 30k years from then, when yellowstone does finally blow (or whenever) it'll be hardly horrible at all, what with no people or complex life to off anyway.
I know, I'm a shameless NRCS shill...deal with it.

Hey, to tell scareying supervolcano stories, don't forget, there are at least two other active volcanic centers in the lower 48 states that have spawned super volcanic eruptions in roughly the same time frame as Yellowstone. One of them, the mono-inyo field in eastern California, next to the long valley super volcano that erupted 760,000 years ago, has been ranked by the USGS as more likely to stage a major eruption than anything in Yellowstone, and is located much closer to major cities in California. Why are you not panicking over that one?
Just to scare you more, there is more than just lots of earthquakes in the mono-into field, but the whole chain of lava domes that pushed up in the last 40,000 years there appear to trace out a gigantic circular ring fault, reminiscent of the development of a major new caldera and mirroring what the development that preceded the long valley super volcano eruption there 760,000 years ago.
When long valley caldera erupted 760,000 years ago, it shot a pyroclastic flow westwards towards San Francisco at such high speed the flow climbed over the top of the Ridge of the 11,000 foot high Sierra Nevada mountains, and flowed down the west side of the mountains filling the preexisting valley of San Joaquin river into the Central Valley about 80 miles away.

I read on a magazine that I was subscribing to in the 80's (Wireless World, from UK), that the rate of success to position a satellite properly around earth was about 20% only (article written in mid 80's and based on the records of the insurance companies related to spatial projects).
On the other hand, about 16 years earlier and by a miracle perhaps, the rate of success for a man (not a capsule or alike) to land on the moon and return back home (I think 6 times) was 100%.
I personally find hard to believe also in scientific miracles. But I guess it is not a crime if someone likes to believe in any sort of miracles in order for him to feel better.

Delusional thinking is rarely a good thing, but often a god thing. It's when people insist we should share something that's purely in their heads that problems start.
As for Wireless World, remember that magazines have no requirement to be accurate.
Oh, and remember Apollo 13?

If believing that it was about 'real' moon landing(s) makes you feel better, I see no reason for you not to believe it.
After all, each person, theist/atheist, has his religious/professional accurate trusted sources that are in charge to present him, for free, the true stories he may be interested in. This explains why almost everyone in the world is happy the way he believes; this is indeed one of the things that makes the world wonderful.

Please don't compare us believing live footage from a time before CG was possible to you believing in your book of magical desert tales.
