So no bright lights or phone calls from jesus or any other dieties while you were under?
Glad you're feeling better. I didn't go under. I fought with all I had to stay conscious. And the medic man just whispering to me like snow "Calm down. Aren't you tired? Wouldn't it be easier to just lay back in the snow and relax? Just close your eyes and leave it to us." I fought!

I don't know why you did. I've been given Benadryl via IV. Gave me some great rest.

I would think that confusion, arrhythmia or tachychardia would be considered less common and/or serious side effects, though. I'm not sure how you might determine if those symptoms were caused by a reaction to the the drug itself, or a result of panic/anxiety/dread from experiencing the unanticipated sedating effect.
It might be worth it to hit your doctor up and have him/her establish with better certainty, as to whether Benedryl is actually contraindicated for you or not.
Hope you feel better soon, Rhonda. Thanks, Thena. Well drying up mucous may be why I no longer have a headache. Post nasal drip has been a problem for years.
He did put it in my file as allergenic, so they won't give it to me anymore.
But even if it weren't the drug itself but my reaction to it, I don't like what the drug did to me. I would never take sleeping pills and unless someone has a license to administer anesthesia in preparation for surgery I don't want to be sedated.
With my visual and hearing impediments I'm more sensitive to feeling out of control than others might be. Still, I didn't freak out or go off on the man and he said he understood my fear and would have been frightened himself. Then we hugged and I went home.

Glad you're OK.
A lot of your symptoms sound anticholinergic, a side effect which Benadryl is known for. Dry mouth and throat, tachycardia, muscle fasciculations, sedation. The mnemonic from school is HRDBM (hot, red, dry, blind [mydriasis], mad [delirium]).
I think Thena made a good point. You should be evaluated for a diphenhydramine/antihistamine allergy. You should not eliminate antihistamines as a treatment option based on this one bad reaction.
Edit: Forgot the K. There is no RDA. Because K comes in many forms (KCl, K gluconate....) the dose should be measured in mEq and not mg. A typical Rx replacement dose to prevent hypokalemia in 20 mEq/day.

If her doctor's determined that it's use is contraindicated, I guess she'd just have to use epinephrine in the event of a severe allergic reaction or anaphylaxis.
Unless there's something else.

Yes.
But, I'm unaware of any other antihistamine that's deemed particularly useful in addressing severe anaphylactic reactions in the short term.
Perhaps there are, though. I know of none, myself.

There are medications given to treat anaphylaxis other than epinephrine and diphenhydramine.
If diphenhydramine injectable is not an option, the H1 blocker used most next often is hydroxyzine (Vistaril). There are limited other injectables .
Other medications routinely administered are corticosteriods, H2 blockers (i.e. Zantac) and bronchodilators,

Now wait a minute. I've heard of Batman and Robin. But I've never seen Batman and Shit. Was Shit in the movie? Did he take Ronin's place? What do you call him, The Booboo Wonder?
