Work From Home Water Cooler Thread
July 19, 2017 at 10:16 am
So, people who work in offices and basically anywhere else there is social interaction get to chat about stupid random shit from the news the night before, what's on the radio lately, what their kids are doing, something weird that happened at the coffee shop that morning, etc. If you work from home and need a few seconds every so often to chat about randomness, this is your thread.
I'll kick it off with some movies I'm excited about that are coming out soonish. You should check out the trailers. "It," "The Dark Tower," and "Murder on the Orient Express." Oh, and if you haven't seen the trailer for "Mr. Mercedes" (a T.V. show), check it out. Looks great.

"Hidden Figures" was my hands-down favorite for 2016. It's only flaw was that they kind of made the bathroom situation a joke in the first half of the movie, but they recovered big time.
As for 2017, that's not easy because most of the meatier stuff hasn't come out yet. Most of what I've seen and liked have been the shallower summer blockbusters. That said, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" was even better than the original. "Wonder Woman" was pretty spectacular too. Of course it wasn't super deep or well-plotted. It was just fun and surprisingly feminist (in the good way, not the insane way). Her outfit was more modest than the original, yet still showed off Gal Gadot. She wasn't easily shushed and was definitely the hero of the film. (I half expected they would have her need rescuing from one of the male leads, but they didn't go that route.)
You?

Vatican Children's Hospital, already in the news for substandard care has been embezzled of nearly 1/2 a million dollars that was spent on refurbishing the retirement abode of an important Cardinal.
I know, no particular surprise there . . .

Well, maybe look at it this way, the hospital is in trouble for substandard care, now with fewer financial resources, there will be less substandard care.
If the hospital had been totally looted, 'success'.

Sure, but I mean, it being run in Vatican City must mean it's not accountable to anyone outside of Vatican City, right? I hope not.

I'm not working from home but I called in sick because I feel fucked and run down today.
I'm excited about the film IT.
I'm not excited about the dark tower because my friend told me the ending. I wasn't annoyed with him for telling me the ending, I asked him to tell me the ending because as much as I like Stephen King stories, a lot of his endings are just plain shit and the way my friend explained the ending to the dark tower this is another annoying instance of a good story ruined by a bad ending.
I just basically said, this story is stupidly big, is the ending crap or not because I need to know now.
Even throughout the parts of the story I did get through he seems to create a great portion of a story and ruin it with a stupid ending to that part. I don't want to give out spoilers so I won't go into detail.
I know the talk in my work place right now will be making fun of the fact I've had to call in sick but I feel no guilt because other people have literally called in sick saying they have really itchy balls and won't be able to make it.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

When you have to call in sick, you have to call in sick. Fuck everyone else.
Well . . . "The Dark Tower" is another iteration of Roland's quest, so it's actually not the same as the book, though it has the same characters and a similar plot. Therefore, the ending will not be the same. It may be a part of a series as well, since I sincerely doubt they can wrap up a Roland quest in one film.
King wrote two endings for "The Dark Tower" because he knew people would hate how he ended it. I hated it so much, I threw the book. That's good, if you ask me.

Vatican City being a sovereign nation, I would expect that they're no accountable to anyone else.
