Mayweather has never been a flash fighter - all he does is win.

Of course, that's the goal. lol

Excellent fight. Better than i expected. Props to both, they both fought well. Brains over brawn, and Mayweather definitely fights with his brains.  Connor who never fought as a pro, did absolutely fantastic. What courage.

People are already putting the fight up there in the top third of Mayweather's career...which is surprising, but, I think, justified.  Anybody who goes ten rounds with him isn't what I'd call a shit boxer, personally.

OTOH, I doubt that Floyd could make the transition, that he would rank very highly in Connor's MMA career. Who knows, though, maybe if he put his mind to it and his heart in it he;d have surprised people too.

I did not watch it... in fact, boxing has held no interest for me since the 80's.  I did take the time to read this review, though.

Of course, the century is still young.  They'll hype the rematch just as hard.

There are two reasons why the fight went ten rounds, 1) Mayweather is 40 and out of the game for two years. There's no way he's going to do anything but the safest of options. If this was young Mayweather in the prime of his career and with something to prove, McGregor would have been down for a ten count early*. 2) The longer the fight lasts, the more people look at it and think "hey maybe an upset might happen", and the more PPVs are sold. It made financial sense for Mayweather to drag it out beyond the point where he had already won, and at this stage in his career the money is everything.

*Frankly Mayweather given the tactics of McGregor could have floored him any time from the fourth round on if he were willing to risk it. McGregor believed in the hype of his big left (frankly, a slow looping and soft left that works in MMA because most fighter there don't understand about protecting their chins) and put his game plan on knocking out Mayweather early. Hence the flurry of punches early on, and when they turned out to be both ineffective and tiring McGregor had nothing in his repetoire only an ability to soak hits. And even in MMA he's not good at that, because he doesn't train hard enough when going for competition and definitely doesn't mind himself outside it. In terms of training he is essentially a version of Ricky Hatton without Hatton's discipline to get in shape coming up to a fight.

I agree that Mayweather wasn't in his prime.  I don't know that he would have, in his prime, put McGregor down so easily, though.  I doubt it would have gone ten..but even if it hadn;t...that -still- would have put the fight in the upper half of his career.

(if it helps, I was never going to pay for that shit, lol. I just read the cards and blow by blows, lol)

The reason McGregor is able to land those punches in MMA is not because the fighters don't understand about protecting their chins. It's because in MMA the stance that the fighters use is "squared up" because they have to defend against kicks, which makes for a bigger target. In Boxing the stance is more sideways which makes the target smaller and makes it easier to move your head.

I don't have much desire to watch the match, but damn, the lead up to it was the most homoerotic TV event I've seen in years.

Jesus, put me in mind of big ol fashun orgie !!

Also makes it easier for your head to move -when hit-...which...means something, even if people don't notice it.  Our heads bobble better than they sway.  The skull provides better protection from the front and than from the sides. That;s why the best way to hit someone with a brick...is when they're not looking.

What else were you expecting?  MacGregor had to fight under boxing rules when he isn't a boxer, and Mayweather has never been a flash fighter - all he does is win.

Boru

Mayweather was actually walking down Connor
Floyd had zero respect for him lol
The fight wasn't average because Floyd fought defensively (which he didn't). His whole game plan was to tire Connor out early.
Connor looked as if he lost his confidence inside the ring but he did force a smile here and there to pretend like he didn't.
Floyd looked old.
Super hyped, average, crap of a fight. If people are considering this in the top three no wonder boxing is dying 😂

RE: Floyd Mayweather vs Connor McGregor
Did anyone else notice how Mayweather insisted he was going to bring an exciting fight, constantly moving forward, and then basically just turtle-shelled for 6 rounds? Yeah, Macgregor got tired a lot faster, because he was. . . you know. . . actually throwing punches and trying to make a decent fight of it.

I kind of feel like Mayweather was being a little bitch. Maybe it was all part of his big plan-- get Conor hyped for a big flurry right at the start, and then let his own adrenaline burn him out early. But geez man, sometimes a fighter should just be a fucking fighter. To be frank, any interest that the fight had was all brought into the ring by Conor and his mesmerizing drunken-cow boxing stance! I don't think Floyd TKO'd Macgregor-- I think Macregor TKO'd Macgregor by try-harding, and Floyd was just waiting for the check to clear.
