We have been in the longest hurricane drought since they started records of such. Saying this is like acrediting a single hot day to global warming.

Help me here, there have been no hurricanes for a long time OR there have been no hurricanes that have hit the US?

RE: Hurricane Irma
It is a major hurricane which has not hit the mainland.  Major is defined as a category 3 or higher.  That record was broken by Harvey.

What's a drouth?  I'm not sure what that is, but I'm guessing it's something pretty terrible if it will cause you to defend hurricanes.

A drouth is a dry mouth, not to be confused with a drought.

What Min said. But my point is that thinking that having two hurricanes hit the US after years of not having any and then saying 'oh it's global warming ' is about the same as blaming a single hot day on global warming. Actual meteorologist have made a statement about the connection between hurricanes and global warming. https://www.wunderground.com/education/webster.asp

RE: Hurricane Irma
I think you have it reversed, Cap'n.  Higher temperatures over the continental US created a massive high pressure system which tended to block hurricanes from reaching the coast from the East.

That's why it seems that more are forming in the Gulf because they don't have to fight their way through the winds.

But Harvey formed in the Gulf and exploded to Cat. 4.  That's exciting.  When Irma gets through with Cuba on its back side and the Florida Keys providing minimal resistance to its more powerful upper right quadrant it will have some time to reform over the very warm waters of the Gulf.  Then, where shall it go?
