I'm mostly concerned about what this sex robot will evolve into. Right now it's still far from a real woman, but it's a start to what might be a very advanced, very human like AI in the future. As this technology advances, it will become more and more of a replacement for human beings. I'm concerned this might condition people, especially men, to subconsciously expect women to be the same way as those robots - always available, never whiny, never with needs of their own... just entirely there to serve the man's sexual desires.
And if men become conditioned to have that on demand whenever they want without having to "put up with" another human, many of them might feel like they don't want a real relationship at all. I mean, why bother?
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Sounds like a Black Mirror episode.

Interesting (and somewhat humorous) question. For now, nothing to see (or feel) here. Different story in the future though. Eventually, these things could be so human-like it would be hard (no pun intended) to tell them apart from the real thing. Here's my immediate thoughts pro and con:
PRO:
Guys would get to have sex whenever they wanted. They would presumably be happier and less likely to channel their frustration into violence.
Guys might more value real women for their non-sexual qualities because they wouldn't need them for that. They might be much less likely to deceive them just to get them in bed because it wouldn't be worth the effort.
Sexual harassment and assaults would be decreased dramatically.
CON:
Guys might lose all interest in real women because they aren't as good in bed as the robots and are considerably higher maintenance.
Women might get all butt-hurt because of their guys porking robots leading to more of see above.
There would probably be more. Given how obsessed men can be about getting laid, replacing women as sex objects with robots might alter society dramatically in ways we can't predict.

I'm actually thinking it might have the opposite effect to be honest.
It may condition men to see women as objects and start treating them like they would their robots. If anything, just out of habit.

Couldn't a sex robot be female on one side for hubby, and male on the other side for wifey ??
(and if the couple occasionally tried the 'wrong' side who cares?)

BTW, who needs a goddam robot ??
I don't use it all the time (I enjoy variety) but my electro-stim is a whole heap-o-fun, and is smaller than my KJV Bible. Who wants something the size of another person cluttering up the house ??

I appreciate your perspective on this, CL, I never thought of this as an ethical issue. I still don't think it is one, however. People are going to do what they are going to do, and as long as it doesn't harm anyone, I am all for it. Whatever melts your butter.
I don't think anyone has a moral responsibility to any sort of sexual conformity for the Greater Good.

I imagine these things would be too expensive for private ownership at first. They would be rentals. They might come to you in self-driving cars.
