Rocket launch to prove earth is flat
November 23, 2017 at 4:46 pm
What are the chances this guy dies?
Quote: Mike Hughes, a 61-year-old limo driver, said his stunt will be the first phase of the flat-Earth space program, sponsored by Research Flat Earth, a group that believes Earth is, well, flat.
The rocket should travel about a mile at a speed of roughly 500 mph.

What the hell??
I haven't read the article yet. Will read.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

He's going to take a rocket up to prove the idea of a flat earth...
... but will wind up proving natural selection instead.
Why doesn't this guy just mount a camera to his rocket? This is dangerous.

So basically, when he shows that the Earth still looks flat from a mile up, it completely disproves the curvature of the Earth seen from about 1200 times higher. That's as logical as taking a spirit level on a commercial flight to prove the aircraft doesn't have to keep pitching down, and thousands of times more expensive. If there's people out there with the money to waste on shit like this, let's get them contributing to something worthwhile. Like education, perhaps.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

It might be easier to keep sailing towards the horizon, just a thought.

The dude seriously wants to just travel 1800 feet to prove earth is flat? C'mon, he can just visit the Burj Khalifa and he'd be higher than that

He's only shooting for 1,800 feet, 545 meters.

No, because apparently according to some schools of thought - and I use both words quite wrongly - the Earth's magnetic field confuses one's compass, such that you only think you're going in a straight line when in 'fact' you're travelling in a huge curve around the circumference.
And anyway, there's that giant fleet of patrol ships assigned to disappear anyone who might stray too close to the ice wall around the rim. IANMTU.

Even worse.
