Food discoveries.
RE: Food discoveries.
No discovery yet, but, in the absence of a coffeemaker, I'm searching the Starbucks website for a bottled drink to uswe to make tiramisu. I'm dying to try it out.

I just discovered a Persimmon fruit, so fucking nice I don't know why they aren't as famous as bananas or apples.

Also just tried an Ostrich burger, I think that might be the tastiest meat I've ever tried.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I've got a tree full of Hachiya persimmons, probably not the kind that won your heart, unless you ate it with a spoon.  But I'd trade you some for an Ostrich burger.  Was the persimmon you ate nicely crunchy and mild flavored?  If so you had a Fuyu.  Sadly that tree's fruit have all been eaten.  Fortunately the squirrels and birds seem to like the Hachiyas better, plus I'm more vigilant about getting those Fuyus.  Pro tip: they are excellent in oat meal.

To me they tasted slightly stronger than mildly flavoured, they reminded me of what tropical flavoured drinks taste like. but the person I was eating them with said she thought they were tasteless so I suppose it depends who you ask about that.

They weren't crunchy though, I'd say an apple is crunchy, this was soft, like something between an orange or a tomato.

Found this lady on youtube describing the difference between the persimmons. Must be extremely uncomfortable for her being filmed while wearing all those explosives.

I discovered Rendang.

Rendang sauce is fucking divine. That's what I've discovered.

And then I googled it and found this on Wikipedia:

Quote:Rendang is a spicy meat dish which originated from the Minangkabau ethnic group of Indonesia, and is now commonly served across the country. One of the characteristic foods of Minangkabau culture, it is served at ceremonial occasions and to honour guests. Rendang is also served among the Malay community in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and among the Bangsamoro peoples of the southern Philippines. Rendang is traditionally prepared by the Minangkabau community during festive occasions such as traditional ceremonies, wedding feasts and Hari Raya (Eid al-Fitr). Although culinary experts often describe rendang as a curry, rendang is usually not considered as such in Indonesia since it is richer and contains less liquid than is normal for Indonesian curries. In 2011 an online poll of 35,000 people by CNN International chose rendang as the number one dish of their "World's 50 Most Delicious Foods (Readers' Pick)" list.

My bold. I'm guessing I'm not the only one who thinks it's divine then!

My parents are visiting through the holidays. I have been cooking Syrian food for my Syrian American mother. The comfort foods of each of our childhoods. Last weekend I cooked Baklawa. Tomorrow Dolma and Tabouli. While I was cooking the Baklawa I thought of all the different forms we have eaten. Walnut,Almond, Filbert, Pistachio, Date. With lemon , cardamon, honey, or cinnamon. I decided then that I was going to find a way to work bacon into that delightful confectionary. Bacon! I think I have it worked out. I might test kitchen bacon seasoned Baklawa on Sunday. I will keep you updated.!

I'm not sharing Doyle to try and change your mind about your meat opinion . . .
