Those who say that ............there cannot be pain without a brain to register the feeling........got it wrong.
If plants wouldn't feel pain why then they emit sign of distress.
They have no brain yet they register the pain somewhere.
Where then other than in the consciousness considering that there is no brain?
Obviously the consciousness is there even in plants.

Any kind of behavior need to be registered somewhere otherwise there wouldn't be a repetition of the same behavior under the same circumstances.
There would be some different reaction every time the same thing happen but it doesn't that is why there is consciousness that make plants react in the same way under the same circumstances.

The production and emission of VOCs doesn't depend on a brain or on consciousness.  In most cases they're released by default through over saturation (that's what's happening when you smell mint) and in others their release is predicate on damage to containing tissues or connected sensory tissue.  While plant behavior is interesting, it's not a mystery..there's no gap to shove a ghost into in any of it.  They serve as a better example..if we're going to compare ourselves to plants, of how we might not require "consciousness", ourselves, to achieve similar effects.  

But I guess I can't prove that plants didn't kick dogs in a previous life..so, you know..I did think of that.

If you would have paid attention to the article you would have understood that certain reactions only happen under certain circumstances like when the grass is cut a certain smell is released.
The release of that particular smell is not happening under other different circumstances.
This clearly show that your point in which the smell is released through over saturation is a load of BS.

You don't have to cut mint to smell it..though it does help to pronounce the effect if you crush it, causing further damage to already saturated tissue.

Aromatics are the worst example of what you're trying to drive at. There are much better ones. Like plants that release predator specific vocs that call in help from predators of the predators. We know how they do that, too, though, and the answer isn;t "brain" or "consciousness"

OFC, I can;t prove that the cricket didn't kick dogs in a previous life...so maybe it;s happening by karma, nothing to do with the underlying mechanics of the plant tissue... because jimminy deserved it. Did you think of that?
