Trump administration backs Asian-American students in Harvard admissions lawsuit
Asian-American students have long been discriminated against by college admissions committees. Due to their high achievement, they face a penalty of 30 SAT points at selective schools.
Now they're suing Harvard for discriminating against them.
Will Harvard end up banning affirmative action the way the state of Michigan has?

Affirmative action sucks.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Personally I think giving some points to certain groups makes sense.
However, I've never heard of taking points away from certain high-achieving groups. That does indeed suck. I suppose in some circumstances it gets the same results, but it really rubs me the wrong way.

When you give points to some, taking points away from others inevitably needs to happen. Because they can only let a certain number of people in. If they're admitting people based on race, like if they have some kind of quota that says X% of people need to be a certain race, if that percentage is greater (like it would be for Asian kids), they end up getting rejected based on their race. To control it more efficiently, they take points away.

And if not the opposite occurs and the group losing out may have far less a chance of competing or even being considered because of an unfair stigma .

Actually, I got "affirmative action" because I'm a South American immigrant. I was given full tuition scholarship to the local university here because of that. I hate to think of what more deserving person that scholarship could have gone to. If they had, you know, given it to someone based on actual merit rather than race or ethnicity.
I also think it's funny that you are still supporting this when it ended up discriminating against Asian kids who would otherwise have gotten in based on their high performance. Lol, what's the matter? Are Asians not part of your designated victim group?

Apart from being an immigrant, I'm a woman. So I'm certainly not privaledged, remember?
You, on the other hand...

Off course women can be privileged compared to other minorities . As for being an immigrant depends from were and who .
