The Last Movie You Watched

I enjoyed the Iron Man movies, the spider man movies and sequels with Toby McGuire were horrific, I liked the first Captain America, Thor was atrocious, and Wonder Woman was alright. I liked Batman Begins and The Dark Knight but not The Dark Knight Rises. I saw the Edward Norton Hulk but hardly remember anything about it. And the first Avengers movie which was okay.

So far, I've seen Iron Man and Incredible Hulk. Iron Man 1 was good, Incredible Hulk was entirely forgettable (the Stan Lee cameo and using soda bottles from Brazil as a crucial plot point were the only things I remembered about it when I hit eject on my Blu-Ray player). I'm at the opening montage in Iron Man 2.

That looks interesting.  Probably be forever before it's available, if ever, on Netflix, though.

Which is why I still utilize my local library's (free!) DVD/Blu-Ray rental service. It'll be out on DVD and Blu-Ray on July 10. A film of this popularity, it will likely be a while before a copy reaches my hands, but, odds are, it'll still take less time than waiting for it to come to Netflix (which it may not even do).

The Last Jedi.

Don't really get the hate it gets at all. Probably the 2nd best Star Wars film imo.

Currently about a third of the way through The Disaster Artist, just on the scene where Tommy and Greg are buying the HD and 35mm cameras with which they'll film The Room. Yes, buying them. Both.

Also, I finished A Monster Calls earlier today. I'm thinking as soon as my Anglotopia column about the latest odds for next year's Glastonbury festival comes in, I'll do a big review of this film.

Looking forward to it.  I quite liked that film.

Raymond Burr was always great playing the "Heavy" in film noir and Lizabeth Scott was underrated as an actress, imo. Dick Powell was a crooner in the 1930s and was known for his roles in musicals until the 1940s when he found his new niche in film noir as a fast talking sarcastic cynic... Powell's break out role in film noir with Mike Mazurki, (another noir Heavy), was when he played Private Detective, Philip Marlowe in, "Murder My Sweet". Humphrey Bogart would also portray Philip Marlowe two years later in "The Big Sleep". Other actors followed in that role too but none were as good as Powell.

I can't forgive Burr for his part in ruining daikaiju ichiban.

The last movie we watched was "His Girl Friday" starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. I think I enjoyed it more than my wife did. That old-timey woodpecker staccato speech pattern so typical of '30s and '40s films drove her crazy.

So, of course, I've adopted it, just to annoy the shit out of her. My "mid-Atlantic accent" has more than a touch of Tennessee Tuxedo to it, which I'm sure enhances her enjoyment.
