No, this issue arose from American baby formula makers not being able to charge infants in the middle of Zimbabwei for their own mother’s breast milk.

Asking a breastfeeding mother to cover up is absurd. How would you like to eat your lunch under a blanket in 90 degree heat?

Any language in any body that might conceivably be used to strengthen any business interfering additive regulations or stipulations is going to be strenuously opposed by the formula lobby..which includes corporate giants we might not (generally) associate with making baby formula.  Many of the people who greenlighted our current process have gone from their prior regulatory positions to board seats at those companies and they maintain close ties with their successors.  

A sideline note..is that even though our formula is banned or restricted in many places..even those places tap on our manufacturers when snatching up formula for 2nd and third world aide projects......again making language that might not interfere with the us side (and is already redundant on the eu side) something to oppose.  

Manufacturers simply do not want to comply with advertising and labeling requirements. The strength of their products lies in their ability to engage in deceptive marketing while obscuring (or failing to disclose) the origin of those same products.

Mommies and Daddies™ want to see "promotes brain and eye development" on the label..not "byproduct of biofuel/chemical weapons manufacturing".

When a baby is hungry and needs to eat, the mother shouldn't be shamed, nor the baby made to wait, until they are in private because some prude jerkwad thinks female breasts are somehow offensive.  Fuck that. In any case...I think it;s because tits and taboo are more interesting than going into the weeds on how this happened, for most folks, Aroura. I think it;s interesting, though, not just because I was a party to part of it..but because we didn;t have to go down this route and it doesn;t really benefit our government (it actually costs them billions). The manufacturers didn;t have to either. If there were grave concerns about the product the many years of feeding babies the world over have since allayed them. In the moment they didn;t want to risk losing their spot as first to market, and they were willing to eat whatever consequences might arise. The cynic in me knows that somebody did a cost/benefit on that one.

That doesn;t change the fact that we rolled the dice and cornered ourselves at the same time.
