That kind of throws a wrench in things, doesn't it? apparently it's possible to be unhappy in heaven, and get yourself kicked out if you think new leadership is in order. So even if you get into heaven, there's no guarantee you'll remain there.

I bet most of the people at madhouses don't have such serious discussions about magical worlds. I mean, we are taking this magical lore way too seriously.

First I want to point out that if a Christian is only following Jesus in this life for the sole purpose of attaining paradise, he/she is probably going about it the wrong way. We should be following Jesus because Jesus is good, and we desire goodness for it's own sake. Even if Heaven didn't exist at all, as humans, most of us naturally have a certain attraction and admiration towards that which is good.

As for what the afterlife will be like, exactly, that I don't know. It is a matter of faith. But we can deduce that IF God does in fact exist, and if God truly is goodness and love, then being completely consumed within Him will be the ultimate fulfillment.

Not all theists follow a religion.
Christianity tell faithful that paradise is waiting for them.
Some theists like myself are aware that faith only is not enough to reach the nirvana.
In fact faith only may well confuse you in believing that you are correct when in reality you may well be totally mistaken.
A lot of hard work instead is necessary to reach the nirvana (yoga version of the Christian paradise) and reincarnation is a must.
Christians fool themselves thinking that one life is enough but life teach us that to reach the very top of evolution it takes a lot of hard work in order to expand our own consciousness in full.

Now ................how to know that you are on the right track?
Easy.
Once the student is ready the teacher will appear and by following his-her teaching you develop the awareness that God exist because that entity is within and the bliss within that increase as you go on with your efforts is the evidence that the nirvana is real.

I couldn't agree with you anymore PP however reality is not a story and the bliss that you feel as you go along with your evolution in consciousness can not be confused with a story so the old saying.......................IF YOU NEVER TRY YOU WILL NEVER KNOW........... is always valid.  

By the way are you aware that there is evolution of the consciousness or you think that evolution only relate to the body?

Why do you need to follow anyone to be good though? I don't, and I consider myself to be a good person. Why are we constantly reminded that Jesus died for us and we can be saved by following him? I thought that the promise of an afterlife and the avoidance of hell was the whole point of being Christian otherwise why bother?

If God actually exists, and is truly good, then all truly good people should be rewarded regardless of what they believe.

A false hope offering comfort is always more appealing to most people than the harsh reality of truth. Deluding one's self into happiness or religious faith is preferable to the alternative.

Why do you want to evolve your consciousness?

Because it is innate in humans to get rid of the canary's syndrome.

A canary born in a cage, right?
One day the poor bird realized that he is equipped with a pair of wings that would allow him (it) to fly.
When this realization get stronger and stronger the owner of the poor bird is bound to help him and that stage is the stage where the student is ready so the master is bound to help him to get free.
It will takes time for the poor bird to learn how to fly as his wings are too weak but as the time and the efforts get him stronger the bird get more and more awareness that he can fly as per his natural Dharma (scope of life so to speak) and with the inner guidance he eventually will get free.

Free from the bondage of not being able to be the real him.
