The problem, both in your case and the russia-america situation, isn't the presence of a stronger foreign bully, rather it's the presence of a pretty large poorly-educated and a highly gullible portion of the population, with a majority of it attributable to religion. So if you truly want to do something about it, try and spread proper education and knowledge. Foreign forces will have no say over a population that can think for itself.
