A sad part to all of this, in addition to a WaPo journalist's life being taken, is that if the US cuts all ties with SA, because of our heavy dependence on their oil, our gas prices would raise as high as $7.00 a gallon. Which begs the question for me:

We have a ten year supply of oil in our own reserves. Why is it that we cannot use our own fucking oil? What is so important about foreign oil?

I'd seriously like to know.

According to Saudi media reports Saudi Arabia's consul in Istanbul has been sacked and will be investigated. Apparently he can be heard talking to the missing journalist on the alleged recording just before you hear him getting a beating.

A combination of economic incentive and strategic planning.  Foreign oil we can get cheaper than domestic (and keep our own relatively less well leveraged wells on hand for any emergency)...but our little spats to the north and south are more salient in this regard than the middle east.

Quote:In 2014, petroleum and natural gas were the two largest sources of energy in the U.S., together providing 63 percent of the energy consumed (oil provided 35 percent and gas 28 percent).[6] In 2008 the United States consumed 19.5 million barrels (3,100,000 m3) per day of petroleum products, of which 46 percent was gasoline, 20 percent diesel fuel and heating oil, and 10 percent liquefied petroleum gas.[7] In 2015, the U.S. imported 24% of the petroleum it used, the lowest since 1970.[8] The largest sources of U.S. imported oil were: Canada (40%), Saudi Arabia (11%), Venezuela (9%), Mexico (8%), and Colombia (4%).[9]

We quietly got out of saudi oil the past few decades. Still, it's useful, and they want to sell it to us cheap.

Fair point however, since it's only 11% of our foreign supply, can't we just say "fuck you" to MBS and get our oil elsewhere?

I really am trying to understand why we "need" their oil so much where there are other less violent countries we could be getting our supply from.

I think it has to do with being a superpower: the U.S doesn't have a single oil source like everybody else, but actually has two: the local reserves, and the Saudi oil.

And that what makes the U.S the most supreme in the international playground right now. The currency of the U.S (which is the number 1 currency in the world) is linked to oil prices.

That's why Trump is dangerous beyond limit: he literally has 2 oil reserves instead of 1, he has a royal family under his disposal that he can order around to raise or lower oil prices, whenever he wants he also has the world's largest nuclear weapons reserves.

https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/inde...=oil_where

The U.S produces 12 % of crude oil. Saudi Arabia produces 13 %.
Literally the U.S has an economical replacement in the kingdom.

Resist, and you'll be chopped with a bone saw.

Yes but that's a different country than the US. If we're going to compare that price to the US price, what's the value of the US dollar compared to the Euro and how is Germany's economy compared to the US?

For example - in Canada, things cost more dollar per dollar vs the US. But if I'm not mistaken, they have a better tax infrastructure and a better economy when compared to the US.

For the working poor, gas prices nearing $3.00 a gallon in the US is already a hard enough hit to the wallet. The Federal Minimum wage is not even considered a fair or a livable wage here.
