again moron you are describing chattel slaves. There were and are different levels of slavery. For example the passage this whole thread is about speaks to the rules of non chattel slaves. these slaves were their own people but pledged time and work in exchange for a debt or property or livestock. There was a time limitation on this form of slavery therefore not owned.. more like leased, and yes even chattel slaves were compensated. For good work they got good food for good workers they wre given wives, single family homes/shot gun shacks ect..

Skilled slaves were well compensated not always as much as a free counter part, but alot more than an unskilled slaves was paid. most made enough to buy their own freedom..

Not all slaves where chattel this may have been true on the mega plantations but for most family farms a slave = a years wage so they were prized and well taken care of. why because you could work this man 5 years get your money back when he buys himself out and turn the money back into a newer younger man.

What this whole thread is about is God being a monster for putting rules on the ethical treatment of slaves when you yourself, (let alone what your ancestors did in that time period concerning slaves) will not even acknowledge your dependance and force change through a simple willingness to spend more through companies who pay a living wage. I posted link after link of everyday products that are all slavery produced.. modern food and materials in everything from electronics to cars to the food you eat and cloths you wear!!!

example we bought a 55" TV thought the advise on an online "ethical consumer.org" that was as much as a 70" 4K smart TV at a discount store.  Smaller more expensive TV for the same money as one 20% larger with more features because we knew the assemblies and subassemblies were put together fairly. While you can't even be bothered to have a discussion without calling the other person a bigot, simply because they challenge your preferred ignorance.

I, on the other hand, am perfectly happy with the 32" TV that I got so that my late mum could have a better TV to watch things on.  I don't even watch TV and might end up giving the set away if I can't find a use for it. No cell phone either, let alone a state-of-the-art smartphone. No "celebrity" or brand-name clothing, except for a fleece jacket embroidered with the logo of the local symphony.

Most of my clothes I get at second-hand stores.  My favourite coffee shops (independents, not chains) deal in fair-trade beans.  There are many countries whose goods I simply won't buy.  Whenever possible I buy local produce, assuming I didn't just grow it myself.  

I'm one of the people who *is* trying to vote with their wallet.

And I suspect that if someone drove up to his home and took him and his entire family away to serve as slaves, things wouldn't be quite so hunky-dory anymore.

It's easy to say crap like "that was how they did things back then" or "it wasn't so bad" or "they did it that way because they had no choice."  Not one of those arguments addresses the underlying issue:  Slavery hurts people.  It is a blatant violation of human rights, and any god worthy of the name should have bloody well known better.

I accept the excuse that I'm not perfect. God doesn't have that excuse.

I believe the plural of "ox" is oxen, (and even if it weren't it would be "oxes", not oxs.)
