I think it goes without saying that this doesn't mean that non-[serious] threads should now become prime targets for jokes and off topic. Serious discussions can be had in threads not marked [serious], just like before, right?

There’s not a ban on humor, but it should be limited. The intention of serious threads is to promote intelligent discussion without people being able to come in and post something irrelevant to try and derail the thread, or to just insult the OP or other participants. Nobody is forced to participate in these threads, so if you see a red thread, avoid it

While I have no problem with this idea, I do think there are a handful of members here who can't tolerate views contrary to their own that will be drawn to the [serious] threads for the sole purpose of disrupting them as well as they can while skating just this side of the rules.
