I used to tow a 3800 lbs sailboat with an 83 Olds Cutlass.... Go was easy. Stop, a bit trickier...

Back in the 70s and early 80s our family had a 16' pleasure boat and a fairly large tent trailer that were pulled with a '72 Datsun pickup and an '81 Volvo sedan. Both 4 bangers. Stop and go were both problematic.

I have an econobox Kia Forte that get 26 or so MPG in town, and has the necessary comforts. My wife and one son have Kia Souls. All were purchased with the 100k/10Y warranty. If they break after that, they get donated and new ones purchased. I didn't used to treat vehicles as throw-aways until the fixing outside of warranty required too much money, even if I did it. I have a '70 Chevy 3/4 ton truck for pulling the travel trailer. I can fix anything on it- it's all old tech that I can diagnose and repair. It'll drag the 3 ton travel trailer right down the road, and since I upgraded it to front disc brakes, will also slow it right down. It only gets 7 MPG when towing. But I won't burn enough fuel to justify buying a newer rig.

I have a Buick Encore that I have had for three years since my old car was destroyed by a freak hail storm. I am sort of thinking that this could be my last car and if it isn't I would probably get something similar.

It's sort of small but since 99% of the time I am the only one in it it's fine for my needs. It gets almost 30MPG though I mostly drive in stop and go, bumper to bumper traffic. The one road trip I made it rode well and kept up fine with the semis I traveled with most of the way.

I really have no complaints about it. I do need to buy new windshield wipers but keep forgetting and I will probably need tires within the next twelve months. Overall I am happy with it.

Tesla, if Elon Musk doesn't implode before then.

A minty 68 Goat - about 10 grand less.


You can buy a shitload of high octane for 10 grand.


And look soooo good doing it.

I like Tesla, and can afford it if I'm smart with my money. Might as well have what I want if I'm going to work hard for it. Believe me, I'd load up on muscle cars too, but I am trying to be environmentally-conscious.
