Deconversion and some doubts

A different evaluative premise yields a different normative statement.

Well use Tim again.

-and you shouldnt be a man- would be required to make the inference follow.

Just as altering the evaluative premise to “ and you should be a man” will make the statement a non seq.

Same goes for stealing. We can agree to the descriptive statement, but if my evaluative premise is @ it’s okay to do a bad thing sometimes” then.,.-therefore you shouldn’t steal- no longer follows.

Follow? Rhetorical, I know you can’t, and that’s why you should endeavor to be unlike yourself.

Again, for the slow of understanding calling stealing bad, is a normative statement.

You claimed falsely that the statement stealing is bad, is descriptive.

If you said being a simpleton is bad, you would also be making a normative statement.

If that’s what your inner voice is telling you, I guess it must be true.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Unlike you I supplied a source indicating this, to teach you the difference between normative and descriptive statements. In fact it’s the link used in the google summary of the distinction.

An honest man would just admit to being wrong when claiming that stealing is bad is a descriptive statement, especially when called out so clearly. It’s not the first time we’ve been here.

Oh yes, absolutely. You’ve demonstrated an impressive command of the simplest and most basic distinctions shared by all moral reasoning.

And that's really all I'm interested in here. If there is a God who sets the rules, I want to hear a compelling case for it, not a weakass one that doesn't succeed in ruling out non theistic explanations or even in solving the philosophical issues that haunt moral philosophies in general.

Pro tip for our nutter bud...you’d have to add an evaluative premise in order to competently shame me for “honesty”... too.

@ grand. Yeah, it would be nice to see that, but we aren’t going to get it from him, because he doesn’t know how to tie the two together.

He just likes throwing temper tantrums when he doesn’t understand shit, lol.

No, I don’t believe in any type of God that “sets” “makes” or “creates” oughts.

The ought comes from the recognization of what’s objectively wrong. Your the one suggesting that it takes society to set oughts.

Quote:Stealing causes some form of harm to others. Since it's bad for us to do this, then we ought not to do it. It's that simple.

I recognize that stealing is wrong, it’s from the recognition that it’s wrong, that I recognize that I ought not to do it, not from society, or some ought setting god.

I don’t believe in a God who “sets” moral rules, so you should perhaps ask that to some theist who does.

You recognize that you shouldn’t steal based on a descriptive statement in combination with at least one evaluative premise.

You’ve flopped between leaving it silent and stating it....and otherwise just thrashed around not realizing that no one is arguing with your descriptive or evaluative statements.

You’re being granted both, and then arguing.....with no one but yourself.

Neither grand nor I nor anyone, really, cares to argue that. We’re just reminding you that neither statement was a god statement.

The question revolves around what classifies as a normative vs descriptive statement. Saying something is bad, is normative. Descriptive statements don’t label things as good or bad, as indicated in the definition I linked to earlier.

If you were honest you would acknowledge this, but you continue to dance around this.
