You're imagining that it's more difficult to get your hands on an AK in south africa? You're very generous with your optimism. Both african christianity and african islam are equally barbaric. The whole continent is soup sandwich and really should get more attention. It's not bad guys, these folks have seriously went over the edge of the map. To the very last man, it seems. Sorry, Rhythm, but I would say it is very difficult for a woman to own, carry and actually use an AK in South Africa and many other African countries. Where do you think they are going to get the money to buy an AK or the "goods" to barter for one? How do you think a villager in Darfur is going to get her hands on an AK when the majority of those that have them are the corrupt thugs working for the Sudanese government and the scant rebels trying to save them? I'm sorry, but you are way off the mark on this one. Yes, the Christians are just as fucking corrupt and just as likely to suppress any rights a woman may have elsewhere. I find it extremely difficult to imagine there is this army of women with AKs in Africa that you are painting a picture of. I think you fail to see the sheer hopelessness of their lives. Poverty, sexism, racism . . . these are only a few of the things preventing women from protecting themselves.

Not less so, in my opinion. Equally so. Chances are, they won't be able to get one. I have already pointed out how useless of a defense mechanism I find this torture condom anyway. The point is, they don't have the guns you think they have or the access to them. Women are walking targets for rape, as are children.

Personally, I dont have any chips in whether or not south african rapists get their naughty bits sliced up (should this ever go commercial). I would be disappointed if someone tried to argue against barbarism and cruelty, while simultaneously insinuating that this sort of thing was somehow a solution, or even to be put on the table. The people of South Africa emphatically do have the guns. They are targets in spite of this, not because of it.

Of course they do not. I am completely aware of the situation. In many places, it is utter anarchy -- refugees mixing with militia, governments disguising their militia as angry tribes and nothing more, governments providing the weapons for genocide, deadly exorcisms performed on children, etc. Most of Africa is a melting pot of fleeing citizens and "bad guys." When the shit hits the fan, they all run and wind up in a different place, but with the same people and the same issues all over again.

The problem that I have with this device is that it places the onus on on women (just like every other rape-prevention technique) to stop their attackers. Men need to fucking learn that it is NOT ok to rape. Women DON'T like it. It isn't funny, and it isn't something that any woman, regardless of what she is wearing or how much she has been imbibing, is "asking for".

The latter half is true. The former is not. Do you really think the Sudanese government is letting the average citizens of Darfur get their hands on weapons? They're not being fucked over by themselves. They are fucking agricultural tribal communities that are being attacked by Janjaweed with AKs. If the people had AKs and not just the rebel groups and the Janjaweed, there wouldn't be a fucking genocide.

It is, whether you like it or not. Of course, it isn't whether the women can touch the weapons. You seem to think that every villager in a bassackwards country with barely any water has an AK and therefore, the womenfolk do too. It simply isn't the case. You can't throw a rock on this planet without hitting an AK. Why aren't more rapists shot in the US Shell, we have plenty of access. The janjaweed has MORE weapons. Theyre also mechanized, they could be wielding sticks and still be successful on those grounds alone. What I'm saying is that the area needs to be leveled and started over fresh.
