A person wishes to purchase a firearm. The shop owner checks and finds out that this person has no record, has never been in serious trouble with the law. Furthermore, the purchaser doesn't seem agitated or upset. Maybe he jokes and chats with the shop owner about the weather, or about the local sports franchise. The seller has no legal reason, no 'gut feeling', no evidence or intimation at all that the purchaser plans to go do-lally fucknuts and start mowing people down.
Based on that, why should the shop owner refuse to sell this person a gun? What criteria would you have gun sellers use to deny a sale?
Boru
I got it..
"A person who wishes to purchase a firearm"
STOP RIGHT THERE......
I am tired of the bullshit sold by the firearm industry and the NRA that it is a bad thing to say, "Who are you , and are you capable of handling a firearm and are you mentally stable" is a bad thing.
Again..... No airline would simply say, "Oh, you never crashed a passenger jet before, here is an instant pilot's licence on the spot because you have no record."
I am sick of the bullshit vilification that prevention is evil.
I want a microscope up the ass of anyone who is going to have me 40,000 feet in the air. Just like we vet our cops and military.
I am not saying we should never sell firearms, but damn it, we make too many and we hand them out like candy.
I suffer from anxiety and depression. I SHOULD NEVER OWN A FIREARM........... Just like I should never fly a passenger jet.
Again, I WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM with firearm CEOs or shop owners if they gave a fuck, but they do not give a fuck.
*sigh* I'm going to try one last time, then I'm out. You're just regurging the same stuff and not answering.
By some legislative miracle, you PERSONALLY are give the authority to create new firearms laws in the US. You can't be overruled by any branch of your government on any level, and the laws you make can only be rescinded by plebiscite (say, 75%). You can create any rules you like regarding weapons types, ammunition, waiting periods - all of it (the only thing you can't do is completely eliminate the right to buy firearms).
NOW: What specific rules would you put in place that would allow a gun shop owner to refuse a sale to a particular person who doesn't seem upset or agitated and who has no serious criminal record?

I am not going to play this bullshit game.
It is as simple as the CEOs and shop owners ability to give a fuck.
If you insist on handing them out like candy, because "no record", what do you want me to say?
If it worked like that, then since I have no violent felonies, even though I suffer from anxiety and depression, I should get a passenger jet pilot's licence just because I want one. Would you or OLB trust me with your life at 40K feet? Would you trust me to be your local policeman?
Neither you or OLB would hand me a pilot's licence just because I wanted one.
I am quite sure both of you have looked at my prior posts in multiple threads and said to yourselves "He has a screw loose".
Cant have it both ways. Cant falsely accuse me of denying rights while considering my mental stability and wondering if I should have access.

And gee...
My plan requires the nut cases to be required to have a "no guns" logo on their I.D. and require an I.D. check for ALL sales.
It seems my plan would cover you perfectly.
Yet you insist I am the problem...
Ah well..

Ok, looks like I'm not done after all.
Quote:I am not going to play this bullshit game.
I've asked you repeatedly what you would do to restrict gun sales. Since you think this is a 'bullshit game', I have to conclude that you aren't serious about gun control.
Quote:It is as simple as the CEOs and shop owners ability to give a fuck.
And I'm asking you what form (for shop owners) that would take. You seem unwilling to provide any suggestions.
Quote:If you insist on handing them out like candy, because "no record", what do you want me to say?
I'm asking you if you have any actual ideas on how to improve the system. It seems as though you're more comfortable talking about the problem than about suggesting solutions. This is known as 'aimless bitching'.

This is a really skewed analogy to make, unless you're saying that potential gun owners should have to show proficiency with firearms before they make a purchase. Are you saying that?
Quote:Neither you or OLB would hand me a pilot's licence just because I wanted one.
Absolutely correct. I'd want to see proof that you had been trained in how to fly a plane, that you had no history of drug abuse, things like that. But we aren't talking about licensing, we're talking about an actual, physical object - a gun. But let's keep going with your analogy, as poor as it is.
Let's say that I'm the guy in charge of issuing pilot licenses. You come to me and say, 'Hi, I'd like a pilot's license, please.' You then proceed to show me everything you are legally required to have in order to be licensed to fly a plane. I say, 'Sorry, I can't give you a license because you might crash someday.' Is that fair?
Quote:I am quite sure both of you have looked at my prior posts in multiple threads and said to yourselves "He has a screw loose".
You'd be wrong. I don't think you have a screw loose. I think you're very, very passionate about a lot of very, very serious issues, but you let that passion get in the way of being reasonable.
Quote:Cant have it both ways. Cant falsely accuse me of denying rights while considering my mental stability and wondering if I should have access.
I'm not trying to have anything both ways. I'm simply attempting to find out of you have any suggestions about improving access to firearms (and saying CEOs should care more isn't a suggestion, it's an observation).

Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.
