Is God a logical contradiction?
RE: Is God a logical contradiction?
It would probably be useful to pin down what we're discussing, here. Having a conscience isn't an issue of not doing The Bad Thing™.

It's an awareness of The Bad Thing™ demonstrated by patterns of behavior to accommodate for it. Avoiding it, avoiding doing it, making reperations for doing it, but also hiding the fact that you've done it...all taken as indications of conscience.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

That's a bit of a prickly one I think GB - do not people ALWAYS do what they perceive to be the justified/correct/right thing?

A conscience has as a prerequisite consciousness, your observational problems start there. Not to mention the idea of a conscience is vapor at best; it's better substituted for more specific terms such as guilt, shame, etc.

If you think non-human animals don't have consciousness...all I can say is "WOOF!" "Meaw!" and "Cuckoo, cuckoo!"

They might, but it's unknowable with our current tools and methods.

That prerequisite has already been demonstrated. Just how out of date are you?

And now you have changed horses for some reason. You were claiming that no other animal exhibited conscience. Now you are claiming that "conscience is vapor at best". Which is it?

You can draw a circle around specific thoughts and mental states and we can all agree to call it conscience. Such mental states we do not know if other animals experience.

By conscience being vapor I mean that if you put the circle you drew under a microscope, you might find that you've set a boundary where nature has not placed any.

At work.

We do know that other animals share similar/the same mental states as many and varied tests have been trialed on a myriad of different animal species to ascertain their responses and level of cognizants.

Such that a species of parrot (The 'Grey parrot' which I think is also well known for its language comprehension skills?) that has displayed/shown the behavior of 'Altruism'.

If different cognitive displays are not evidence of 'Consciousness'? What, perhaps, might be?
