Preppers are silly insofar as they are prepping for silly things (zombie apocalypse?). But even then, the advantage of preparing at all spills over to events such as these pandemics, etc.

The zombie apocalypse might be as silly as thinking porcupines shoot their quills, but both beliefs provide an advantage.

The businesses that are most hand to mouth will be the most resistant to enforced stand down.    Landscapers don’t get paid for working from home.

This pandemic hits those too anti-intellectual to not vote for trump disproportionately hard, which is why trump wants to pretend the pandemic is not a real thing.
