[Serious] Future of the Forums (Discussion)

RE: Future of the Forums (Discussion)
(March 31, 2020 at 6:07 pm)Prof.Lunaphiles Wrote: I apologize for being new to the Atheist Forum - I have been at the other atheist forums that have decommissioned over the past 18 years of my participation and monitoring.

I believe that the 'atheist' forums decommission, because of the memberships' progressive lack of interest - nothing is accomplished. Nobody learns anything new, or trustworthy to accept as leading toward a better path of society. Some forums have tried setting up discussion areas designed to deliberate issues to their just conclusion, but it does not work.

In 2002 when I first entered an atheist forum, Atheist Network, my immediate ambition was to find enlightenment to understanding why society is so chaotic. to my surprise, I found atheists to be in a state of chaos, and I had to research it all on my own.

It is a contradiction for atheists to claim that they are the guardians of reason and critical thinking, and then claim that atheists are all very much different in opinions about things. The usual euphemism is that "gathering atheists is like herding cats." And then atheists will charge theists to review their dogma, or whatever. The point is that there are only a handful of reasonable opinions about any particular issue, and it only appears to be too numerous to list, because atheists are not willing to accept the possibility that they are wrong about some things (definitions to words significant to atheists), that were established in a less sophisticated society. And of course, in the situation of forums, such reversals will offend and possibly alienate members to discontinue their memberships.

Don't get me wrong - I do not believe in the existence of gods - I am an atheist.

I believe that there is a way of deliberating issues in forums like this, and that developing the system to achieve such a goal is what atheists should be working on before the theists do it first . . .

Atheists suggest that Galileo was wronged by the Church, but how does one convince people who have long believed the world to be flat without being able to prove otherwise with visual proof, or actually sailing around the world??? For some reason atheists think it should have been easily reasoned by the Church officials and that it was their responsibility to announce the new ideas to the peasants.

It isn't really about the altering the beliefs of the faithful (This is essentially banging your head against a brick wall) It's more disrupting their ability to convince others to follow them into batshittery.

The earth had been shown to be round centuries before Galileo, there was even an experiment done to determine it's circumference.

The only thing atheists are required to be in agreement about is their lack of belief in gods, societal issues don’t enter into it.

There are only a handful of reasonable options/opinions to any particular issue - it is absurd to believe that every/any issue has tens of reasonable solutions.

Dude, where's the link to the information that you are suggesting, and why does Galileo garner all the credit, and what does that have to do with the better discussion of why atheist forums seem to decommission that I am trying to address???

Why do atheist always pick on the examples and avoid the actual discussion?

The shape of the Earth had nothing do with Galileo’s trouble with the Church.
Whoops, my fault.

So, what does this have to do with the better discussion about what happens to atheist forums???

Why do they decommission?

Why has the owner of this forum expressed a loss of interest?

Why are you avoiding those obvious issues and concentrating on other issues that are used only to exemplify how dogma works?

Just FYI, you needn’t link to the post to which you’re replying.

As to the link you’ve requested, google ‘history of geodesy’ and you’ll have it.

Galileo gets NO credited for postulating that the Earth is a spheroid.

My responses have nothing to do with the future of AF.

I’ve never owned or operated a forum, so I can’t answer that.

You’ll need to take that up with the owner.

*shrug* Correcting mistakes (my own as well as others) fascinates me. I’m more interested in your factual errors than I am about the future of this forum.

I doubt that it's been studied rigorously - but one imagines that they fall apart for any number of reasons.  One might thrive for the same reason the other doesn't, and vv.  On a long enough timescale..I'm willing to bet that they all fall apart.

The owner has built himself a wonderful life which consumes the majority of his time and effort.

Obvious questions with obvious answers - but no obvious issue. Artificial communities are transient, and made up of transient members.

What sort of disagreements over what definition of which words, did you have in mind, in your explanation?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

The owner of this forum is busy with work and has become interested in a Discord about a topic he prefers to talk about. Did you not read the OP?

Wait, did someone revive this old thread just so he could continue the thread he just started elsewhere on the forum? Honestly, I thought that there had been some new development threatening the forum.
