I can see why. We don't have an order like that here..but pretty much everywhere else is closed..so everybody is at the lowes. Packed parking lots...all day, erry day, from open to close. In fact, if you want more than one package of toilet paper, you have to go to the lowes. If you hit lowes and kroger, then you can buy a package at each retailer, lol. Don't see many people hovering around the seed displays, though.
I smoke like a chimney and drink like a fish, and I know realistically, long term, it will catch up to me. But both the local tobacco shop and ABC store have BOTH put in social distancing measures to insure customer and employee safety. I will never bitch about public safety.

It's none of her fucking business if people want to buy paint or seeds so they can grow their owned goddamned food on if they want.
It seems as if some of these governors are trying to see how far they can go. People should protest unreasonable measures, IMO.
I get what you are saying. I think the idea is to stop, or slow, unnecessary trips to stores...I agree it's not the best written of plans. I know of a lot of people using this time to do home fixups and I can't see how that can be a problem. If you can go to Home Depot or Lowes to get lightbulbs or repair items you should certainly also be able to buy a gallon of paint.
People should protest unreasonable measures but by gathering together in a large group for photos on the capitol steps they are ignoring the reasonable measure of social distancing.

No trouble getting paint here. The order in michigan was a response to people blatantly not even trying to follow social distancing guidelines -as- cases started to balloon. They're not going to the lowes to buy seeds to grow food..and if they want seeds, grocery stores have the same product displays. That was just political theater. I guess these really serious gardeners never thought about this.....but they could just do what anyone else who grows food does - and order online.
Whitmer has been having alot of fun on twitter swatting down the various rightwing nutballs claiming this or that about the order.

Today's lol. "Whole Foods, social distancing and limited # of people in the store." "Total Wine and More", no required distancing and no check on # of people in the store.
They had a Balvenie scotch I didn't have my collection yet. Buh-bye $235.00 plus tax.

Globally speaking, our species cannot nor should complain about social distancing. It sucks that we are in this. But the fact remains right now, until a vaccine is made for this virus, social distancing is the best practice.

Oh diddums, they can't buy paint. They should be forced to watch what's happening in Equador. For the west this is just an inconvenience in comparison.

I think the rest of us should be allowed to throw rocks at people who continue to gather in large groups.
A good case can be made for self defense.

Michigan is forcing Walmart, Costco, Target and others to shut down parts of their stores and stop selling 'nonessential' items
Quote:Michigan is forcing large stores such as Walmart, Costco, and Target to close areas dedicated to carpeting, flooring, furniture, garden centers, plant nurseries, and paint.
The audacity of this grandstanding, power-drunk cretin to think she's best suited to determine exactly what people may or may not need while they're already in a Walmart or Target.
