I, for one, am well past the age where someone needs to monitor what I choose to watch/read/listen to.
I have also found that if I am watching something that I find I don't care for, I can turn it off. Simple.

You use your brain for deducting reason though, not for storing incessant ramble to regurgitate upon command.

Agree, but then I'm scratching my head.
Why ban GWTW? Why doesn't society just accept that movie as a piece of pure fiction, like in a parallel universe where the black slaves loved what they did!
Like all the Startrek episodes, Roddenberry wanted to use scifi (as a sandbox) as a way to explore current social/political events in the real world without too much backlash.
I think all movies have a message to pass on. Some messages are more noble than others.
Like many propaganda Nth Korean or German WW2 movies, can't GWTW be construed as a white patriarchal supremacist propaganda movie of its era?
And if so, do we still want to call it art for portraying a skewed version of reality.
I can't see black people watching it as a fictional piece for artistic pleasure when it has such deep real world connotations.
How does one differentiate the two?
I genuinely don't know what the answer is. 1.It wasn't banned
2. There huge difference between putting a disclaimer and rewriting the movie
3.There a difference between explaining historical context and propaganda
4.It's still art and portrayals in art can still be commented on how they relate to reality

Or they put a disclaimer
Either one works

It's weird to me that everyone's acting like HBO has gone full Stalin it's a disclaimer and some context added. It wasn't banned no ones out there burning physical copies of the film .If people have an issue then it's not like HBO is the only place you can see Gone With The Wind . It's not as though this is the first time something been altered for TV . It's just odd .

I was speaking to arewethereyet particularly, only in reference to her basically saying she changes the channel if she doesn't care for what's on.
Secondly, I am speaking in general terms. Not just this instance. I find it odd that people accept the brutality of life, but the fictionalized version gets all the knickers twisted.

I get that, but why let the fake version bother you?
I fucking hate rap with every single fiber of my being, I would never expect anyone to have to stop enjoying it because I have a problem with it. I just don't have to listen to it.
Even though I despise the kkk and all that they stand for, I would not agree with a law yhat stifled their right to spew their idiocy. I just don't have to listen to it.

Accept no ones saying don't enjoy it . How does adding context alter that .
Accept no one's been stifled

Once again, I would refer anyone who thinks that HBO Max is censoring GWTW to my post.
It looks like it'll be back up soon, and the only alteration will be an introduction by a black historian putting all the racially dodgy shit into perspective, with, as far as anyone can tell, not a frame of the feature itself altered, basically, a video version of this.
And, frankly, compared to DisneyPlus' Star Wars making Greedo say "McClunkey!" just as Han shoots him, this is actually a reasonable alteration. In the meantime, it's still in print on DVD and Blu-Ray and if you have any trouble finding a copy, that's only because this controversy is making those copies sell like hot cakes. And, odds are, if you order one online, with the postal service as wonky as it's been, it'll probably be back on HBO Max by the time you get it.

Both would be cases of hiding from reality. It's a fact that "Birth of a Nation" exists. To deny that is to sanitize history. We studied this film when I was at Purdue.
