Cops aren't sharks, or at least they're not meant to behave like them. The number you cited may be small in the grand scheme of things but it shouldn't have to get to that point. Also, this isn't a trend that's only happened in one specific year and it isn't about just numbers anyway. People are seeing what's in these videos and getting all freaked out about it. Imagine you're a black person having to constantly see this same shit play over time and time again to other black people and then wondering if/when your turn will be next. It seems like the cops find it relatively easy to pull the trigger on black folks even when what they're doing isn't warranting such violence.
There's your problem.
The media shows these incidents over and over and over and over and over and over [slap]....
And then people assume on some level that this shit happens every 15 minutes.
The actual numbers - the BILLIONS of police/civilian interactions that happen uneventfully vs the dozen or so suspect bad shootings (some are justified) per year belay the idea that cops are inherently dangerous.

Do those numbers mean that police who kill unarmed civilians should not be held accountable? Because my perception is that it is the cops getting away with it that has people angry. Sometimes it seems like if there aren't people protesting in the streets, the cops (or even private citizens who kill unarmed black people) get away with it or only get a relative slap on the wrist that doesn't prevent them from continuing to work in law enforcement. I don't see how the cases being isolated in the grand scheme of things makes it okay for the people charged with making sure justice is served to not act swiftly in these cases. If you killed an unarmed person in the street and police saw it, you wouldn't be going home to your family until they sorted out whether it was justified or not and assess how much the public will be upset if they don't arrest you. They'd hold you while they investigated. That's how we should handle doubtful police shootings, and the hold should turn into an arrest if they would arrest a civilian who did the same thing. Allowances for being a cop with a hard job to do have to have a limit or the police wind up being no more than the gang in charge.

The problem, OLB, is not that the media reports on the problem.

I have been watching the remake of Dynasty.
The Carrington son happens to be a gay liberal who disagrees with his conservative father about everything.
I think this is the first show I've seen that has mentioned police corruption (not to mention the fact that this aired back in 2017, was probably filmed in 2016), by the Carrington son, unless there are other shows I've not seen that have also brought mentioned it.

Serpico was mentioned or discussed in almost every TV cop show after the book and movie came out....
