For my part, I think I have thought widely enough about it. In order for Trump to stage a coup, he would need the military. In order for him to use the military to enforce domestic law, he would have to declare martial law. Under Posse Comitatus, he cannot declare martial law without congressional approval.

What's legal and what's possible are two different things, especially in a country as legally dysfunctional as the US is.

If Trump were even slightly more competent than he is he'd have been able to swing at least part of the military leadership to his side to be able to stage a coup, no matter what the law says. Remember the Air Force is fundagelical central at all ranks and the army is heavily riddled with people who'd gladly destroy the country to recreate the South.

Yes, it’s official, Donald Trump’s Twitter account is on lockdown with the threat of a permanent suspension if he keeps this shit up (and he almost certainly will).

And even his cabinet are actually going so far as to consider invoking the 25th Amendment and removing him from power themselves.

Utterly irrelevant observation (given the seriousness of the issue):

If Trump gets successfully 25th-ed, Pence will assume the presidency until Biden's inauguration. So, some questions:

-Does that make Pence the 46th president, or will his official title be something like 'Acting President', 'Interim President', etc?

-Will he get an official presidential portrait?

-Will he get a presidential pension and other post-presidency perks?

-Will he have to choose a vice-president?

-Will this invalidate the outcome of all previous trivia games that hinged on the question, 'Which president had the shortest term in office?' If so, who can I write to about getting my record changed?

-Why do so many people believe the myth that the Great Wall of China can be seen from the Moon?

Imho Pences possible presidency is irrelevant looking at the damage that has been done over 4 years.

Certainly not a scholar on this stuff but I am pretty sure that various VPs have been put in charge (temporarily) when presidents have, for instance, needed surgery.  I don't see why they can't do something like that.  It wouldn't make Pence the president but would put him in charge since Trump is obviously incapacitated.

One of Trump's top aides (who wasn't named) was said to have described Trump quite recently as "out of his mind".  DUH - ya think?
